About this listen
Born without magic, Mackenzie Little has few prospects. In a futile attempt to break her out of the null caste, her mother ropes her into participating in a charity auction, where anything can be bought with enough money.
She never expected her ex-boss would buy her company, but for one day, she lives a fairy tale. Nine months later, despite their precautions, Mackenzie’s little miracle is born.
Armed with Texas pride and New York viciousness, Mackenzie must fight through hell or high water to protect her family of two from a society obsessed with the magic they lack.
The writing was great. Dialogue is usually a let down, but this was written with sassy strong willed characters that bounced out of the story. It was full of quick comments and humour. Unfortunately, Keira Grace, the narrator, ended at least half the sentences on the same down beat that swallowed a lot of that comedy. The speed of the delivery was consistent which lead to a soporific feel. There were occasions where I even doubted the reader understood the meaning of the word read. The emphasis on the wrong part of the sentence meant that it appeared that the writing came across as repetitive in its use of vocabulary, but it shouldnt have done ifnread differently, which i found jarring. Overall, it was only marginally better than AI. So sad. It was so consistent it might have been directed that way and no fault of Ms Grace, who had a lovely voice.
I have listen to these in prescribed order and have decided not to continue, or to be fair, even finish this one.
I am mourning the loss of a wonderful story, but I just can't listen anymore.
What a pile of contradictions.
