About this listen

The return of a Brighton girl turned movie star spells nothing but trouble for Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in the gripping crime novel Not Dead Yet, by award winning author Peter James.

Gaia Lafayette has a movie to shoot back home and Grace is in charge of her security. Yet when a vicious gangster is released from prison and an unidentifiable headless torso is found, a nightmare unfolds before Grace’s eyes.

An obsessed stalker is after Gaia – and Grace knows that they may be at large in his city, waiting, watching, planning . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Not Dead Yet is the eighth thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Man's Time and Want You Dead.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Critic reviews

No one can deny James’s success as a crime novelist . . . The Grace stories almost always go to the top of the bestseller lists, not least because they are supremely well-told. James writes meticulously researched police procedurals, so informed that you can smell the canteen coffee . . . enthralling

I found Not Dead Yet to be thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. I was pleased to find that it was another Roy Grace tale that you could sit back and immerse yourself in. It has all the favourite characters but off in a different direction, and with unexpected twists.
I was concerned that there may be too much repetition of the regular cast's idiosyncrasies, Bella's crunching Maltesers, etc, as had been commented on the reviews I'd read, but I found nothing untoward or irritating. Even Roy's ex-wife, who previously provoked somewhat tedious raking over of emotions, this time broke the mould.
The only very minor gripe I have is the sometimes inconsistent accents and character voices of the narrator, who otherwise did a sterling job with a plethora of genders and accents.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable book which will have you laughing out loud one moment then on the edge of your seat the next.

Entertaining right from the off

brilliant as usual, the last couple of chapters brought a lump to my throat.

Others have said they didn’t like Gaminara’s narration - personally I think he’s the best of those in the series so far - easy to listen to while the others are harsh and I think make the main characters slightly OTT - not believable. I wish he were to do more ….

The story is ok - i didn’t feel let down or disappointed at BCsll - no reason to complain. I like the continuation of the personal lives of the characters - makes me feel involved in the stories …. I would recommend wholeheartedly to others

Once again a great book. But why the change of narrator. Still it doesn't detract from the story. Another Roy grace classic

Fabulous as always! Having read the first 7 books in this series as they came out years ago (and recently re-visited on Audible) I enjoyed reading a new title in the series. The storyline is interesting and had me gripped, and I enjoyed a few more scraps of information about Grace's wife, Sandy, and am desperate to know what happened to make her disappear.

I listened on Audible. It's a shame that the series has had several different narrators, and I see that there are several reviews complaining about William Gaminara's narration. I actually thought his narration was excellent. Unfortunately his voice for Glenn Branson was totally different from previous narrators, which threw me at first, but I soon got used to it.
