About this listen

'One of James’s most emotionally engaging books' – Mirror

When a woman disappears into thin air, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace must face his most engrossing case yet. From CWA Diamond Dagger award-winning author Peter James.

*****

Niall and Eden Paternoster start their Sunday the same way they always do – with a long drive, a visit to a country house and a quick stop at the local supermarket on the way home.

But this Sunday ends differently – because while Niall waits and waits in the car park for Eden to pick up supplies, Eden never returns. She’s not waiting for him at home, and none of their family or friends have heard from her.

Gone without a trace, Niall is arrested on suspicion of her murder. When DS Roy Grace is called in to investigate, it doesn’t take long to realize that nothing in this case is quite as it seems . . .

Left You Dead is the seventeenth thrilling crime novel in the Roy Grace series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Simple, Looking Good Dead and Not Dead Enough.

Now a major TV series starring John Simm.

Critic reviews

One of James’s most emotionally engaging books
Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he’s one of the most believable
James just gets better and better and deserves the success he has achieved with this first-class series
Meticulous research gives his prose great authenticity . . . James manages to add enough surprises and drama that by the end you’re rooting for the police and really don’t know if they will finally get their men

I loved this audio book. Peter James story was brilliant and the narrator completely did it justice. I listened over two days as wanted to know what was going to happen next. I definitely would recommend. Hope there will be another in the Roy Grace series - I think this might be my favourite so far.

Excellent in all ways

I think this may be the best in the series featuring DI Grace. I guessed a major part of the twist early on. That didn’t spoil my enjoyment though and, as the story progressed, there was so much more than I expected. I was gripped throughout. I very much look forward to the next offering by Peter James.

Possibly the best yet!

Daniel Weyman made this book a great listen for me, he is a fantastic narrator and I loved every minute. The story has many twists and turns and is thoroughly enjoyable. I am now hunting down more books in this series with the same narrator. It makes a massive difference to your listening experience when the narration is so good.

Great story, great narration

I have loved the Roy Grace books since reading the first one and every book since! This one had me experiencing every emotion in turn. I thought I had guessed the plot early on, but I should have known better because the twists and turns had me flipping my allegiances from one character to another several times!
The narration was excellent and extremely sensitively done. The personal storyline had me in tears and explored a side of the subject matter that I had never considered before.
My daughter is an avid reader too and we love to review our reading matter together. She is addicted to Grace too! The wait for the next in the series is going to be a long one!

Best yet!

Avid fan of this series. This has to be one of the best. Heartbreaking, well researched and such tender topic. Left me in tears in places.
Good to see Roy Grace back at the top after a few books seemed to wane somewhat.
Can’t wait to see what happens next
