Summary

In a startling follow-up to the New York Times best-seller The Jesus Family Tomb, a historical detective story that unravels a newly translated document filled with startling revelations and fascinating detail about the life and times of Jesus.

Waiting to be rediscovered in the British Library is an ancient manuscript of the early Church, copied by an anonymous monk. The manuscript is at least 1,450 years old, possibly dating to the first century, Jesus' lifetime. And now, The Lost Gospel provides the first-ever translation from Syriac into English of this unique document that tells the inside story of Jesus' social, family, and political life.

The Lost Gospel takes listeners on an unparalleled historical adventure through a paradigm-shifting manuscript. What the authors eventually discover is astounding: confirmation of Jesus' marriage to Mary the Magdalene; the names of their two children; the towering presence of Mary the Magdalene; a previously unknown plot on Jesus' life, thirteen years prior to the crucifixion; an assassination attempt against Mary the Magdalene and their children; Jesus' connection to political figures at the highest level of the Roman Empire; and a religious movement that antedates that of Paul - the Church of Mary the Magdalene. Part historical detective story, part modern adventure, The Lost Gospel reveals secrets that have been hiding in plain sight for millennia.

Hallelujah Sophia!

I would like to say ‘thank you’ to the authors for this unforgettable book. It is fascinating, eye opening and most importantly factual.
As a Christian I am glad to have another proof that church and faith are two different things. And as a catholic I am glad to find out that Christ was married and had children, as you would except if he was a man. As a human I think message was send loud enough and it will reach who needs it.

So was Jesus married?

This books gives the listener/ reader facts, hypothesis and suggestions about Jesus and the life we don't read in the bible. We are told many things from differing sources about his life, marriage, children and siblings. Try the book and make up your own mind.

Only for those with a truly open mind

For any who is open to questions about the foundations of about Christianity I highly recommend this book. If you truly believe that the truth is revealed in your copy of the Bible go no further else have your belief system called into question.

Interesting challenge to mainstream Christianity

This got a little repetitive at times but was interesting. I prefer Bart Ehrman who is more of an expert.

Enjoyable

I quite enjoyed this book, but at the end of the day, you can look at any ancient story, change the names and say hey-ho, here is the hidden story of Jesus and Mary. Or just about anyone you want! However, putting my personal sceptiscicm aside, the book has been incredibly well written and the content, extremely well researched and I believe that the writers believe they have truly scrutinised and deciphered the syriac manuscripts to which they are referring as a hidden diary of Jesus and Mary’s early years and married life together, and which had been anciently disguised as the story of Joseph and Aseneth! They could not have possibly penned this good literature had they not had this enthusiasm for the story. I admire the authors for their work and of course the reader/listener must make their own decisions on whether to believe this or not. I would recommend it as a debating platform which goes with so many other factual and fictional stories along the same lines, (the Da Vinci Code – The Last Temptation of Christ – Holy Blood, Holy Grail etc.,) but for writing and research content as well as literary substance, it has good content and I would recommend its purchase. Easy on the ear and easy to follow the story line. Enjoy.

Gripping & Thought Provoking

I found it easier than expected to get through this, and learnt a lot along the way. I found myself largely convinced of the main theory presented.

There is a lot of repeating information, and a few times conclusions drawn over lesser points seemed to be reaching slightly - but overall I'm glad I spent the time listening to this.

Excellent

Loved the research, presentation of the historical Jesus, proof or not that this is was a cripted gospel that Mary Magdelene and Jesus Ben Joseph were married.
