Summary

Take your French to the next level and further your fluency with Paul’s simple, relaxed approach and learn in a way that suits you – without having to memorise long lists of words you won’t use, scribbling notes as you listen, or feeling frustrated.

Instead, Paul will help you to you build on your existing French knowledge and guide you through 8 hours of essential tenses and grammar that you need to independently construct sentences and feel confident speaking French in a variety of scenarios. Just listen, interact, and learn wherever you are. This course also contains a handy downloadable booklet to help you revise and reinforce your learning.

Next Steps is an intermediate course, for non-beginners, which follows on from the Learn French with Paul Noble for Beginners – Complete Course.

Paul Noble left school unable to speak a language – having found that the traditional learning methods left him feeling ‘confused, incapable and unable to really say anything’. Determined that there must be a better way to learn, Paul spent years devising his own unique method of learning languages which cuts out all the grammar, all the memorisation, and all the stress. He began using his method to teach in his Language Institute and, thousands of students later, he prides himself on never having had a student fail.

To continue your language learning journey once you’ve completed this course, download Learn with Paul Noble Complete courses in a variety of languages: Spanish, Italian, German, and Mandarin Chinese.

Impressed. Very thorough.

I hadn’t listened to the beginner course before this as I’m already at an intermediate/advanced level of French but I do like to make use of different resources as I often find there’s things of use. Whilst I already knew the vast majority of what was covered I thought there were some really good tips and his explanation of how to think about the two tenses covered here (imparfait and passé composé) was really good. There is a lot of repetition, as there should be but this was done in a clever way which I think will ensure it stays with the learner. The biggest positive is that it leaves enough time after asking the question for you to think and say out loud your answer without pausing which is so often neglected on these types of courses. I don’t think you could have too many complaints with this.

Great way of teaching

Paul cautions you not to overthink what you’re learning but just to go with it naturally and it works - you’ll be surprised at what you’re retaining - I’m in the early stages of an open university degree in French and this is really helping with my accent too

Worthwhile: sound (but unexciting).

If you have made your way successfully through First Steps, you will probably agree that the programme has guided you into a kind of comfort zone of extracting responses from you that are for the most part 'determined' to be correct by the prompts of the coach.
Next Steps continues with this method, which is why I would sum up the experience as being sound but unexciting. And in some respects Next Steps makes for easier practice than First Steps in that there is nothing as tricky in the selection of language points as the lessons on the placement and order of pronouns, which make up a large part of First Steps.

Best French programme I’ve ever come across

Please, please build an Advanced French course - your methods are exceptionally effective. I’ve tried countless courses over decades, but found this disciplined thoughtful and practical course easily the best

Really fantastic!

Good carry on from the first part, can't stress how much these courses have improved my french in only a couple months, really wishing there was a third part though! Would recommend them to anyone wanting to get a good, useful foundation in French : )

Too basic for intermediate level

This book is targeted at intermediates so from the outset it was annoying that the author did not deem it necessary to explain his method. His assumption is that you have bought his beginners book but why would you if you’re not a beginner.
I do appreciate the benefits of constant repetition and the building block approach to sentences was effective in as much useful phrases were impressed on ones brain. However the monotone and laboured delivery and lack of variety made this approach extremely boring and the endless droning sleep inducing.
It would be helpful to have the chapters announced within the audio as there was no way of referencing specific sections if you wanted to revise certain elements.
Then finally the author decides to quickly run through things like days of the week, months and seasons which is certainly not intermediate.
I might recommend this book for someone who wanted to move on from very basic french but would not recommend for intermediate standard.
This is a great lesson in how to make something last 30% longer than necessary. Disappointing

These courses are always easy to use, Paul has a way of teaching grammar and tenses without making you feel bogged down in them. I feel that my french will be improved!

Great expansion on the course

This was just what I needed after finishing the previous course and keeping sharp with Duolingo. This next level took me to the conversational level.

This is an excellent learning tool.

There is no story, but I gave that part of the review 5 stars. Why? Because Paul is so good at building layers of useful dialogue to learn French. Coupled with his style of repetition, and his explanation of confusing concepts, I find this my favorite tool so far for learning french!

Merci Paul

I've thoroughly enjoyed learning french with Paul! His lessons are genius. When I started, I barely knew 2 verbs in French, now I can string whole sentences together. I feel more confident and will continue my lessons ro become fluent.

Paul's pedantic persillade for perfecting french!

The approach used is to point out the similarity of what you know from English and by repitition drill in the simple changes required to use French. It works amazingly well.
I wish I had Paul when I was an undergraduate taking 6 semesters of French at Tufts.
I listen in the car and I have advanced my knowledge and gained back a lot of my confidence to speak in French.
Download the PDF for practice.
Merci Paul

Excellent book

Once again Paul Noble publishes an outstanding book for language learning. I have tried several other authors, no-one in anywhere near.

This will honestly not make you a French speaker

When I first bought this audiobook I read all the reviews and I really thought I could reach a conversational level after finishing, but that is not what happened. Don't get me wrong, this is really good for intermediate learners but I don't think it will help you achieve an advanced level of understanding.
