Impressed. Very thorough.

I hadn’t listened to the beginner course before this as I’m already at an intermediate/advanced level of French but I do like to make use of different resources as I often find there’s things of use. Whilst I already knew the vast majority of what was covered I thought there were some really good tips and his explanation of how to think about the two tenses covered here (imparfait and passé composé) was really good. There is a lot of repetition, as there should be but this was done in a clever way which I think will ensure it stays with the learner. The biggest positive is that it leaves enough time after asking the question for you to think and say out loud your answer without pausing which is so often neglected on these types of courses. I don’t think you could have too many complaints with this.

Great way of teaching

Paul cautions you not to overthink what you’re learning but just to go with it naturally and it works - you’ll be surprised at what you’re retaining - I’m in the early stages of an open university degree in French and this is really helping with my accent too

Worthwhile: sound (but unexciting).

If you have made your way successfully through First Steps, you will probably agree that the programme has guided you into a kind of comfort zone of extracting responses from you that are for the most part 'determined' to be correct by the prompts of the coach.
Next Steps continues with this method, which is why I would sum up the experience as being sound but unexciting. And in some respects Next Steps makes for easier practice than First Steps in that there is nothing as tricky in the selection of language points as the lessons on the placement and order of pronouns, which make up a large part of First Steps.

Good, effective. just a little too repetitious

Very good, effective method. Just a little too slow and repetitive going through all the (similar ) conjugations in imperfect tense uneccessarily perhaps? Generally really good. iI am looking forward to doing the next one.

Successful language learning all on my own!

The course works by building up vocabulary, grammar gradually into sentences with a lot of repetition. It has worked well for me but you need to do a bit each day and go back over the harder bits until you've got it before moving to the next chapter.

Great expansion on the course

This was just what I needed after finishing the previous course and keeping sharp with Duolingo. This next level took me to the conversational level.

Merci Paul

I've thoroughly enjoyed learning french with Paul! His lessons are genius. When I started, I barely knew 2 verbs in French, now I can string whole sentences together. I feel more confident and will continue my lessons ro become fluent.

Excellent book

Once again Paul Noble publishes an outstanding book for language learning. I have tried several other authors, no-one in anywhere near.

Paul's pedantic persillade for perfecting french!

The approach used is to point out the similarity of what you know from English and by repitition drill in the simple changes required to use French. It works amazingly well.
I wish I had Paul when I was an undergraduate taking 6 semesters of French at Tufts.
I listen in the car and I have advanced my knowledge and gained back a lot of my confidence to speak in French.
Download the PDF for practice.
Merci Paul

Horrible, it is not worth the time.

Sve yourself from 8 hours of useless repetitions of the same vocabulary, you will only learn how to conjugate verbs in two versions of the past.
Repetitions are good if the vocabulary is changing, this is always the same vocabulary, nd because of the authors useless method you will never start thinking in French.
There are better alternatives in youtube if you want to learn French.
