About this listen

Book 3 in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

On the shattered world of Verghast, Gaunt and his Ghosts find themselves embroiled within an ancient and deadly civil war as a mighty hive-city is besieged by an unrelenting foe.

Listen to it because: The return of a classic Gaunt's Ghosts novel! The Tanith First deploy to Verghast to help break the Chaos siege of Vervunhive. Tanks clash with daemon engines, Imperial Guardsmen make brave last stands and Colonel-Commissar Gaunt steps up and takes control of the war effort, showing for the first time the command abilities that will go on to make him a legend.

The story: On the world of Verghast, a grinding war between two hive cities - one loyal to the Imperium, the other fallen to the worship of the Dark Gods - is bolstered by the forces of the Astra Militarum, spearheaded by the Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First and Only. But bitter rivalries and treachery threaten to derail the defence of Vervunhive, and it falls to Gaunt to take command of the Imperial forces and forge victory from an almost certain defeat.

loved every part of it, fantastic narration as always and by far my favourite guants ghosts story so far.

Best 40k book I've read

As good on audible as when I first read it all those years ago. Narrated beautifully and really tells the story well.

Still one of the best.

Big fan of abnetts work since the eisenhorn series but had missed this. I knew it was some classic black library so I was curious to check it out. I heard that the first few novels are a bit shaky in terms of quality and that this was a great place to start, and I have to agree. It's a great romp, very action heavy.

Pretty cheesy here and there but that's all part of the fun. Doesn't take away from the breaktaking descriptions of battle, or setting. Toby Longworths performance as well is just fantastic. Can safely say I'm excited to see what the gaunts will be up to next.

Stellar bit of early abnett

Great performance from Toby Longworth, love hearing the Tanith portraid as having an irish accent

Great listen

Even better than the 1sr and 2nd book of Gaunt'a Ghosts. Toby Longworth, as always, does a great job of bringing the slightly-over-the-top world of Warhammer to life. It's epic, but still believable.
