Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Superb reading of a great story

Have you listened to any of Francis Matthews’s other performances? How does this one compare?

As superlative as ever. Knocks the mediocre David Thorpe readings into a cocked hat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

I had to return this. It's a fun Golden Age Margery Allingham mystery that I know well and was looking forward to listening to - but the American accents - of which there are many in this story - were so dreadful I couldn't go on listening. Why do so many actors struggle so with American accents? Ditto Suffolk. Also awful - and this is set in Suffolk!

Daft but fun story. Terrible American accents.

This is old school English actor RP narration with laugh out loud terrible accents. Typical of it’s time but really hard on the ears and ruined enjoyment of the story because I couldn’t understand what he was saying a lot of the time.

Terrible accents spoiled the listening

In the style of Christie, Sawyer and Mitchell. Period adventure and mystery. Totally recommend.

Excellent traditional murder mystery

Another great Albert Campion story, sure to please fans of the series, and read by the most excellent narrator, whose talent for accents has to be heard to be believed. The story doesn't stray too far from the usual formula, but this shouldn't worry anyone who enjoys the genre. The plot might be somewhat thin, but the characters are fun, and the action is well paced. Overall a recommended listen.

Fantastic narration!
