Summary

Here's a bittersweet story about the perils and pleasures of pounds and pennies. It will make you laugh and cry.

Two bothers, Damian and Anthony, are unwittingly caught up in a train robbery during Britain's countdown to join the Euro. Suddenly finding themselves with a vast amount of cash, the boys have just one glorious, appalling dilemma - how to spend it in the few days before it becomes worthless. Torn between the vices of buying a million pizzas and the virtues of ending world poverty, the boys soon discover that being rich is a mug's game. For not only is the clock ticking - the bungling bank robbers are closing in.

Pizzas or World Peace, what would you choose?

More advertised 😃

The narration was very good and so was the book. I truly enjoyed it but I think that it's underrated because I have hardly heard of this series before and I think it should be more advertised. Thank you very much 😊

Unexpected treasure

I only read this book because it was on the reading list for a course I am taking in writing for children. It was recommended text for the lecture on creating voice and whilst I learnt some useful things on this topic I also had a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience and a lesson in not being put off by the particular genre box a novel may have been placed in. I’ve been going through a spate of starting books and then abandoning them after only a chapter or two because the content and/or characters are just too hard to take. Maybe it is something to do with the personal and societal challenges that a year of pandemic have brought but I didn’t have the stomach for tragedy, highly disturbed characters, death, relational toxicity, pessimism about humanity and life in our times because of the terrible effect these books were having on my mood and state of mind and I needed something hopeful and uplifting. It was my good luck that I chanced on ‘Millions’ and an added bonus that it was narrated so brilliantly by the droll Stephen Tompkinson. The story-line is original, believable and gripping, the characters, perfectly imperfect and the resolution is satisfying. I recommend it highly to children and adults alike.

Guaranteed laughs

Just finished listening to this on a long, cross country journey with my children (aged 11 and 9). A great story that had us laughing for beginning to end. Beautifully written and Stephen Thompkinson really brings it to life.
