With the current housing market, some people may consider building their own home to save up on the cost. Though, this book is geared toward building a dream/ retirement home, I think anyone who is considering building their own home can benefit from this. The book covers many essential steps to consider before building a home, such as how to get a construction loan, how to get a house plan, how to identify suppliers and contractors, how to budget for the construction, and how to navigate the actual construction process. I very much appreciate that the author put great consideration on helping readers to budget and save on the home building process. It really helps give me a better idea of how much capital I would need. Overall I recommend this book to anyone who want to build their dream home. One great idea that I would consider from this book is putting my house in an LLC.

I wish I had had this book much earlier in my life of home ownership. This book would have helped so much. But hey, better late than never.

This book is very detailed in an easy to understand way, it answered all of the questions I had, with very helpful step-by-step guides. I feel confident and prepared to start the process of building my dream home. It’s a must read, 10/10 would recommend.

I always wanted to know how to build your own home in simple terms that my family can do ourselves. I see so many things in homes that we just don’t want, and have wanted to have our house the way we would love, not the way everyone else likes it.


Kris Land makes it so easy; he explains how he did it, and how he has learned by experience, now how nice is that! I must admit I don’t like people telling me how to do something without ever doing it themselves, because they never see the problems.


He breaks it down into small bites, or steps that help you see when you have met those goals, that way you can see how things are moving along which I am sure will be a great encourager.


How to deal with subcontractors, which will save you lots of money by not having to pay for a contractor.

How to deal with all the costs, loan, insurance, know all the permits you will need & to get them before you build, 0%APR credit card, draw up your plans making sure you are 100% happy with it, finding the architect that works with what you want, find out who your family or friends know that can do different things to help you build your home easier, how to find all the shortcuts & coupons for everything possible, how to get all of your supplies, planning ahead, and tons more.

Kris Land does a good job of laying out the steps and resources to prepare for a dream home build. I came into this book thinking it was a standalone, but it is part of a series. As a stand-alone it would not have been a full guide to the process, but it definitely came close. Looking forward to reading the other installments!

An interesting journey into what goes into building a house. Not many of us will ever do it in the uk. But this is a great book on how you can buy some land and put your own house on it. If you've ever wondered what it would take, this gives a great overview! I really enjoyed it.

Right now, the thought of building my dream house is just that, a dream. It’s not something I am in a position to do at this moment. However, part of believing that dream will come through is preparing for it. That’s why I chose to listen to this audiobook. I want to know all that will be involved in making this dream come true and start preparing for it. You can tell that the author really knows what he is talking about by the level of detail he provides. I feel encouraged that by following the steps he outlines, that I won’t have to make needless mistakes along the way.
