Summary

The unputdownable new thriller from the best-selling author of the next girl.

She’s just the girl he’s looking for…

A young woman falls from a vehicle speeding down a quiet road. Battered and bruised, she turns her head to the person who comes to her aid. ‘Help her’, she whispers before her eyes close.

Days later, the body of another young girl is found in a shallow grave just a few miles away. The similarities between the two girls are startling, same age, same frail body, same shocking red hair.

As the town fears there’s a serial killer living amongst them, Detective Gina Harte must put aside her own struggles at home, and catch the killer before he finds another perfect girl.

An absolutely heart-stopping crime thriller from Carla Kovach – if you like Lisa Gardner, Robert Bryndza or Clare Mackintosh, Her Pretty Bones will have you hooked.

Obsessed with this series

Love this series, this book was as good as the others if not the best yet. Brilliant storyline, absolutely gripping. I agree with the other reviewer who said they wish Gina would let go of all her baggage.

gripping story

The story is as good as the other books in this story - you really get the total emersion these detectives have in their work -you can really imagine must be very frustrating for family members.

this was my first fiction audible book and I wasn't that impressed with the performance - I found the attempt at different accents annoying especially gruff voices to depict males - I'd of rather had it read straight or by a selection of people.
when the story gets gripping i have a tendancy to read faster in excitement - audio version forces you to keep the same pace which can make the book seem longer - it doesn't feel the same as the can't out down feeling of a book.

totally predictable..generous marks

I found this narrators squealy voice and bad accents hard to listen too and detracted from the story. Just as well i could drift off and still not have missed anything. i tried. i really did i kept going back thinking maybe i’d missed something but no it was just a mediocre book. i certainly won’t be trying anymore of this author or narrator...sorry

My least fave of the 3, but still hope for more

I am a big fan of DI Harte. I love how Kovach takes a realistic female perspective. She is not super human, but still manages to triumph out of sheer grit and perseverance. This book takes on some social issues which I also very much appreciate, and it really does extend empathy to victims of poverty and drug abuse. I found this one slightly less gripping and compelling than previous books. Maybe it was less "action" involving Gina herself? Or also a very complex plot line involving multiple narratives which were slightly harder to track and keep up with in an audio format. So, I liked it but not as much as the other two. However, I still hope for more DI Harte stories because she is a character worth developing and following and we need more like her!

Disappointing

I have enjoyed the series but this book seemed messier. More difficult to follow, just too messy

3

Just an average published mystery.
Simplistic enough to annoy, it is
irritating and boring. I won't look for anything else by this author.

Another winner

I always love Gina Hart stories. This one isn't my favorite but I love seeing the character of Gina grow and change, especially with having just read the last story. All the characters are great and I enjoy that we get a glimpse of what the villain is up to without giving too much away. This story didn't have the same suspense for me as the previous two did but still very interesting.

Another excellent listen

This is third book in the series and just as interesting and diverse as the first. The story mainly sticks to police procedure and detective work. Most of the characters are quite likeable with one exception. Gina's daughter is quite a bitch. She is constantly angry, yelling at her mother. There is no respect there but Gina only tries harder, never confronting her daughter's need for anger management control. But since I enjoy the detective part and do not like too much personal stuff, I will say the book is totally enjoyable and I am looking forward to another book in this series.

Good but not her best

I like her books but this one wasn’t as thrilling as the first two. I’ll still finish the series but don’t expect to be as into it as the others.

Sigh .....

If I had remembered that I’ve read the previous books in this series I would have skipped out all together. I listen to 4-5 books a week. Anyhow, this book is all the lead detective who isn’t anything to admire whatsoever. She is whiny and wait, whiny and never has her stuff together and everyone around her is holding her together... for what reason I don’t know. This book is even worse than the last books. The very first interview where the POI is clearly faltering... she is just possibly sensing that something may not be quite right. This character is so mellow dramatic. To sum her up, she’s basically just a middle aged detective whose life has been fairly tough and she wears everything for the world to see. My imagination has put her together as a woman with fried hair and she probably uses dish soap to wash and wrinkle city because she doesn’t care for herself and just basically worn out because she definitely does not love herself and it’s astonishing anyone even puts her on some ridiculous pedestals. In each novel when a crime scene comes about everyone that should be there is in fact there why they are always waiting on her. Then the storyline is she’s some how wringing her family by choosing to remain a detective. Blah blah blah. Since I purchased this book I figured wth ... but after zoning off numerous times to only key back in to here her barely making it through life... I asked for my money back.

Not captivating ... hey am I going on and on? Yea.... kinda like the book!

Disappointing, difficult to get through and disjointed

Narrator excellent. The story overall was elect down to many things going on at once, difficult to follow. Would not recommend
