The Loving Push...

... great mindset. Young asd kiddos often need a loving push to reach their potential but I do not feel this book represents where we are at in 2021.
There are some interesting stories about the authors life and many lessons to be learned however as the parent of an autistic child, one who is particularly articulate, I do not feel many of the recommendations or approaches contained would be helpful for him. Quite the opposite. What I know is that listening to autistic adults gives us an insight into their experience but it absolutely does not and should not drown out this generations voice. This book offers lessons to be learned by the past, an opportunity to avoid repeating those mistakes (yes they are still ongoing) and a reasoned understanding of the authors mindset. It is by no means a manual on how to get your child to succeed in life....that happens by observing them, their needs and their environment, holding space for them, advocating for them and most importantly listening to your child whether that’s vocally or in non verbal communication.
