Summary

The Bhagavad Gita is a gem so precious in India's spiritual treasury that many regard it not as a volume of sacred verse, but as a living manifestation of the Divine. In the summer of 1974, inside a balmy Boulder, Colorado, warehouse that served as a main hall of a fledgling Naropa Institute, some say a minor miracle occured: the reawakening of the Gita's living presence, as it unfolded in a series of wisdom teachings led by Ram Dass. With Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender, you are invited to experience these legendary gatherings.

Masterful

Ram Dass at his most eloquent, witty and humble. He speaks the truth, and there was very little I could find reason to disagree with. But if I did, he made the space in which to do that. The last chapter it probably worth the purchase alone.

Outstanding classic

A wonderfully intimate feel to this canonical audio recording of Ram Dass. As usual, Ram Dass helps you along your own path by pointing out the key pitfalls to avoid, based on his own experience, in order to help you achieve what you can in this life time. I have listened to it tens of times already; and each time some of the stories have taken on different meanings depending on where I am on my own journey. Now that's value for money!

Excellent coverage of Gita by a Master teacher

Ram Dass delivers 12 hours of lectures in his own inimable kind, loving, humorous style. These lectures are now many decades old, but for me they are totally relevant in our modern world (How could timeless wisdom ever lose it's relevance after all :-)

A multiple-listen lifesaver

This is one of the best spiritual talks I've ever heard. A younger Ram Dass floats the wisdom of the Gita through your mind with such naturalness that lines which you overlooked initially cook in your mind and come back to you years later. Listen to this once and you'll have a guru on your shoulder for a lifetime. RD is sincere and funny, honest and self -deprecating. The audiobook is comforting and invigorating. It's a gem.

Wonderful Audiobook

Ram Dass's lectures are very good. I learnt so much from his talks. I will listen to it again several times as so they are very deep. I am a student of Tibetan Buddhism and Ram Dass's talk on the Bhagavad Gita has really helped my understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. Thank you Ram Dass.

Inner Wisdom

I love Ram Das and have done so from the moment I first heard heard his words of wisdom in the 70's. I always find those gems that make me question myself, that shake me and wake me out of the illusions I slip back into again and again. His words touch deep into the soul like a gentle caress or, a strong prod reminding me just who I am not who I think I am. This is a book which is good for anyone just starting out on a spiritual journey, as well as those experienced travellers still searching.

Ultimate surrender

I have read quite a lot but nothing compares to this. His honesty, sense of humour, self acceptance, literature knowledge amazed me. He became my daily companion, I'm learning from him and he entertains me at the same time. Best buy I'v ever made in my life.

Oh....Ram Das!

My favorite listen during my recent battle with the flu was 12 hrs of Ram Das explaining the Bhagavad Gita. (Recorded in 1974) I like the part in the Gita where Ram Das and Timothy Leary get fired from Harvard for ordering a half million dollars of LSD for research. Feeling much better now- Namaste, Granmonkie

Wow!!! An American mystic.

Ram Dass delivers from his heart the path to Consciousness, God and Love. Having followed a spiritual journey for many years it was delightful to find in a 1974 recording a history that somewhat parallels my journey and it's many twists and turns. In 1974 I would have thought he was out to lunch, not knowing that in 2011 I would love to be lunching with him discussing this path. I especially love knowing that he simply taught and was not invested in Ego's rewards or worried about what the future would bring. This is a treasure, read in his own young, strong voice. Namaste

Bhagavad Gita for Everyone

Recorded in 1974, this book provides a fascinating look back at Ram Dass, and it serves to show us why he was, and still is, such a popular spiritual leader. His tone is casual, he spins stories as though he was hanging out with a group of friends at a cafe (or even a bar), and he gently guides the listener through many of the most important messages in the Gita, a book that can be pretty intimidating at best. This is one of the finest spiritual pieces I ever did hear (or read).

A good look at a real life of a teacher

I enjoyed a real life look at someone who is supposed to be a guide for others. Here the author uses the Botagveti to talk about his life walking us through it. I enjoyed going through it step by step and while listening I saw the parallels in my own life. In many ways it answered some of the questions in my own life. I have found myself giving up more and more control surrendering more and more. I understand why this is occurring at this time in my life. I found this profound and listening to Caroline Myss ‘The Language of Archetypes’ helped even more.

What’s more here is someone who pushed in one direction to learn they needed to go in another direction which they did. Yet, all the while they pushed they learned and someone was there to patiently wait on them and help them which we would commonly call a guru/guide. I understand this and why it’s occurring.

Go through this book and listen to the individual lessons and you will learn much. I see the parallels here between the Saints of the Catholic church where they said they embraced the most irritating people in their lives. I see why they come into my life and what I learn from them is immense! This is just one example from the book! There are so many others I could type pages, but that would ruin it for you! So, enjoy the book and enjoy changing your life.

great talks from a wise man

me nothing about the Bhagavad Gita before listening to this in new a little bit more after but knew more of in relation to Ram Dass is life in aspects of it. After reading it a few times myself this book becomes a little more understandable it is a great lesson for anybody who is a rhombus fan but it's not something I can listen to over and over again and that is something I prefer on an audiobook. Complete involvement in surrender to the information being given in and I'm not judgemental View. well breathing let it pass and let it pass out like all it all changes nothing living stays.
ONENESS LOVE AND RESPECT TO ALL.

A Gem

Even though the audio is not up to contemporary standards, having these teachings on the Gita from the 70's is an absolute blessing. I'm halfway through and loving it so much, I had to post something about it. It consists of recordings from a course on the Gita he taught at Naropa U, and Ram is a very fine teacher. He must have been great at Harvard! In this way, it's also a mini-time capsule. I have studied the Gita before but this is opening it in a new way for me. I know I will turn to it again and again to untangle my own clinging.
