Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Rina Kent comes a new stand-alone dark romance about a villain and his new obsession.

I caught the attention of a monster.

I didn’t ask for it. Didn’t even see it coming.

But the moment I do, it’s too late.

Killian Carson is a predator wrapped in sophisticated charm.

He’s cold-blooded, manipulative, and savage.

The worst part is that no one sees his devil side.

I do.

And that will cost me everything.

I run, but the thing about monsters?

They always chase.

This book is a dark unconventional romance and contains themes that aren't to everyone's liking. Please check the author's note in the ebook for content warnings before listening.

A solid start to second Gen

I've now read most if not all the RE/Mafia world books that RK has released and I've mostly enjoyed them all. Now when I heard we were getting the kids stories I was excited. And I enjoyed the dynamic between Glyndon and Killian. Killian isn't a hero by any stretch, but he's that perfect trope of I hate everyone but you. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this series brings to the table. This kept my hooked and even though Killian won't be for everyone, he and Glyn knocked my socks off. I volunteered to read and review a complimentary copy of this. All opinions are my own.

Dark College Romance

God of Malice by Rina Kent is a dark college romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Sebastian York, Josie Minor, Aaron Shedlock, Wen Ross, and Kylie Stewart. This is the first book of the Legacy series and can be read as a stand-alone.

I love Rina's books! She does an amazing job pulling me into the story and making me fall in love with the characters. I loved the relationship between Killian and Glyndon. It was a bit toxic and messy, but you couldn't help but root for them. I really enjoyed getting Killian, Glyndon, Astrid, Levi, and Asher's points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Sebastian, Josie, Aaron, Wen, and Kylie did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, college romances, or mafia romances.

Amazing, dark and twisted!

What an incredibly dark, twisted romance! Rina Kent giving us the next generation of deliciously dark personalities. Glyndon goes to Royal Elite University to visit the place her friend Devlin died. Running into Killian was by chance, and now she has become his obsession. Killian sees a kindred spirit in Glyndon, but his approach is rough and bullyish. It's hard to like this man, but with his upbringing, we can fully understand where he is coming from. Kent takes us on their journey as she takes us out of our comfort zones and keeps us on the edge. Romantic suspense like this is the best! It's one of those things you just can't stop listening too, because no matter how devious it becomes, we need to find out how it ends. Killian is incredibly depraved, and his approach to Glyndon is rough and aggressive. Glyndon doesn't back down though. She shows just how much backbone she has, and it's fantastic! Plus we get cameos from Astrid, Levi and Asher, older, wiser and so much fun to hear their point of views! I am loving this start to the new series and can't wait for more.

The narration of this book is stellar. Sebastian York brings out the darkness in Killian with a slight evilness, giving him that edgy feel. Josie Minor brings in an emotionally driven performance as Glyndon. She deals with each feeling ,creating an incredible character. Cameos by Kylie Stewart Aaron Shedlock and Wen Ross fill out the narration, bringing their characters back, making the story perfect!

A real dark romance full of triggers

It took me time to warm up to the story. I love dark romances, but this one started in the worst way possible: with a rape. Just after the mention of a suicide, and, maybe, a suicide attempt–though Glyndon denies it.

Even after all the justifications for Killian’s behavior–his psychopathy, his habit of getting what he wants, his upbringing, his friendships, etc.–I’m still not sure of what I think of him. His seduction was more like sexual assault, his love more like obsession. Despite the insistence that he couldn’t have any feelings, he still had some emotional moments with his family. He was a complicated character for sure, not really loveable though.

And how Glyndon can fall for him is still a mystery to me. She seems to like being ordered around–why not–and she has some experience with neurodivergent people, thanks to her older brother. And, of course, Killian is handsome and sexy. But the things he does to her… I pass, thanks.

And yet… it’s a dark romance, so I didn’t expect sunshine and rainbow. I took everything in stride, and focused on the characters’ arcs. And that was one eventful ride.

Killian is neurodivergent, bordering dangerous, yet able to restrain his impulses. He seems to have accepted it, even thrived. Yet, the more we learn about him, the more he appears complicated. His family’s history, and his relationships with his parents and his brother, seem to have shaped him, as much as his mental trouble. Past traumas influence his attitude and the way he interacts with people. It was interesting to see him get closure, move on, try to redefine his life and himself through his relationship with Glyndon.

Glyndon’s life isn’t that happy either. It’s hinted several time that she suffers from depression, and that she lacks self confidence. Is she weak though? Not really, she’s feisty. That’s the main reason Killian is after her: she refused him. She grows up too in the story. A lot happens to her, and she realizes things about her, about her family, about the people around her. She goes through a few deceptions too. Her arc is quite interesting in the end.

The narration was perfect. I was surprised by the male narrator who nailed Killian’s coldness and lack of empathy. The female narrator, new to me, did a good job with Glyndon. It was nice to have cameos of narrators who appeared before in other books by the same author. Not exactly the usual happily ever after, but a real dark romance full of triggers, lead by perfectly cast narrators.

God of Malice

It's crazy, it's sick, but it's ohhh soooo good.
I couldn't stop listening (of course, not just because of the story, also because of the narration).

While listening, I was like: what the heck?
But the story is just awsome.

It contains topics like depression, suicide, killing wishes,... but if you are not sensible to those, then this book is definitely worth reading/listening to.

Glad I gave the audio a chance

4🌟

I’ve seen Multiple reviews of this book and whilst most people say amazing things somehow i just couldn’t bring myself to pick up the book and finish it.

Every time I started it I would always get a few pages in and think this isn’t the right time to read this book, it’s so dark right from the beginning , infact I think the beginning may be the darkest part of the book

I saw a review recently that said if you can get passed the first 2 chapters of the book you will be down then rabbit whole not wanting to get out - if your that person , sorry I can’t remember which reviewer it was but I want to give you a huge thankyou , I stuck past those first to chapters and then couldn’t stop listening . Picking up the audio for this was defiantly what helped me push through, I genuinely believed if I had tried to read the book again I would have given up and oh I’m so glad I’ve started this series.

Killian is definitely a phycopath but a loveable phycopath who makes an amazing mmc for Glyndon who has been free falling into a world of despair since her friend Devlin killed himself .

If your a fan of Rinas work then you will please to hear that some of your favourites appear in this book - well it is a next gen book after all

We have Levi and Astrid King from the Royal Elite series who are Glyndon parents.

We also get to see how the trauma Asher Carson and Reina Ellis suffered in their story has affected their relationship with Killian and how they are working to repair it.

A little separate review of the audio as a British person I really struggle with audio books where there is a heavy posh British accent , honestly no one I know speaks like that and I find it so unrealistic. I thought both narrators did an amazing job with this book and I throughly enjoyed it once I could get past the accent.
If you are someone like me who struggles with it please listen to a sample , if you can get past it this audio is so good.
