Summary

Frank's had better days....

The doctor gave him the news he didn't want, and he's also discovered the worst kept secret in Liverpool: that his wife's fitness instructor is providing her services that extend beyond the gym. With time a dwindling commodity, Frank decides it's time to do something he wants to do.

With a little encouragement from his oldest friend, Stan, the first destination for his 'bucke list' is the Isle of Man TT Races. They had been content to just spectate, but fate had other ideas.

A good book let down by terrible narration.

The story was excellent, well written and very funny in places, which is no mean feat when the storyline is about a man with a terminal diagnosis of cancer. The description of the Isle of Man and the TT Circuit was accurate and evocative. The problem was the narrator was useless, most of the characters sounded the same, even the women! The worst by far was the Irish character who’s accent shifted from Father Ted to Ian Paisley and back again. I will read further books in the series but I think I’ll go for the paperbacks rather than the audio versions.

Endearing story of discovery and hope

The narrator could have been a bit more fluid but told the story well enough.

When I am approaching retirement age, this is the sort of caper I hope to be still discovering with my mates. A very hopeful and uplifting adventure

Poor

I listened to this during the corona virus. I needed a laugh and hoped this would provide it but, sadly, it didn't. The characters were somewhat entertaining but the story was really weak. I will not be listening to the rest of the series.

Two loveable characters plus others as well. Very funny. Loved it. Very well read by Chris Lines.

A good gentle and mindly funny story.

Well worth a listen. I was given the book for Christmas, but I've never had the time to read it. So, feeling guilty, I downloaded the Audible edition to listen to in the car.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, helped on end by Chris Lines' gravelly voice. There's a gentle humour running though the story. This coupled with the descriptions of the TT races (I haven't been for many years, but this brought my own memories flooding back) made for a very enjoyable listen.

Laugh out loud!

What a fantastic book. I’m a huge TT fan and this encapsulates the whole thing, with a nice little back story. I’d love to hear of a sequel!

Made my boss mad...

I listen on my drive to work and the 28 miles seemed like five. When at work I said I’ll go in at the end of the chapter ..... three chapters later and I’m on the bosses bad side... yet it was well worth it! Looking forward to part 2!
