Never read any Bond books, only seen the films which I’ve always loved. Listened to this and now hooked, making my way through the whole collection.

Great novel

Loved this and read with total elegance

A gripping story which was expertly told. The RP of the narrator fitted the genre and time period so perfectly I was immediately entranced. Please use Matthew more.

Setting this in the 1950s at the beginning of Bond’s career made for a story as good as any Fleming.

Excellent in every way

This is a cosy kind of spy novel. There a few interesting twists and turns in the plot, but wasn’t an entirely gripping experience. The characters were fairly flat which more or less is dictated by the genre. There was, however, a little psychological backstory to the protagonist, which was nice. All in all, an entertaining listening experience.

Interesting backstory

Loved this audiobook, gave a good insight into Bond and how he started his journey as 007

A Great look into Bond

I have always loved the Bond books and these new ones are living up to the legend.

As good as Fleming.

A really good re- boot and a fun story from start to finish. This was well performed and a superb story by a gifted writer.

Wonderful listen

Bond has become my go-to for casual listening; nothing taxing, and lead character and format that is instantly familiar and reassuring.

This version is no different. The characters are all classic Bond villains, perfectly drawn for your imagination, and there's all the glamour you would expect from a novel set in the south of France in the 1950's, and I enjoyed the fact that I was privy to Bond's first outing as a Double-0' agent.

Great to see another 3D Bond girl too. From the outset'16' matches Bond, step for step, and is as brilliantly capable and ruthless as any of her male counterparts.

In my opinion, this is also the best reading of a Bond book that I've listened to. Matthew Goode, gives a considered performance, embodying all of the different characters with ease, and a subtlety that never threatens to stray into distraction.

This has definitely left me hoping Horrowitz and Goode is a combination that pops up again.

A very satisfying bond story

True to the spirit of Ian Flemming and the James Bond stories… and great narration!

Brilliant

Really good Bond story. certainly in the Flemming vein, but written with great style, engaging characters and all the Bond elements you expect. Narration was also excellent throughout. Definitely recommended.
