Publisher's Summary

In the days of pre-Civil War slavery - the unforgettable novel of a shocking portion of our American heritage. The time was not all magnolia blossoms and crinolines. It was more than romance and splendor. It was debauchery and slavery, gambling tables and dens of iniquity. It was murder and forgiveness. It was all the great contradiction of life in a golden era...

This isn't a romanticized, Gone with the Wind type of story. This is the story of human natures, good and bad, of love and deceit, of beauty and utter madness!

    Story
    "Plantation"
If you could sum up The Plantation in three words, what would they be?

The steamy sexual scenes could have been eliminated, I just skimmed over them, and missed nothing as far as plot was concerned. I loved this story. The action never slowed. Great audiobook.

    Story
    "Graphic sexuality"

The only relationships in this book were sexual and graphic in nature. Young girls having sex for the first time (slaves being "bred") loving it. Pubescent sister and niece arousing and being aroused by brother and uncle. So different from reality (typical male porno fantasy) that I knew a man must have written it...bingo...couldn't get past the first chapter.

    Story
    ""I'm a Deavers, dammit""
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm in the middle of the road on that one, but leaning slightly toward "yes."

If you’ve listened to books by George McNeill before, how does this one compare?

    No.

Have you listened to any of Chet Williamson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Chet made the book.

Was The Plantation worth the listening time?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

The book could be summed by two phrases -- "I'm a Deavers, dammit" along with "and his penis hardened." The story was all right. A little predictable at times but not bad. The regular sex scenes made it feel more like a trashy romance novel than a serious novel. I ended up knowing more about all of the male characters' "hard penises" than what they thought at a soulful level. The narrator made the story, though. Bravo, Chet!

    "Sex Talk"

A little to much sex talk. Not necessary for the overall content of the story.

    "uncomfortable "

made me uncomfortable. unnecessary sex and incest that had no bearing on the story. the narrator sounded like a snake oil sales man the whole time. too dramatic.

    Story
    "Just don’t do it"

This book was pretty bad from the beginning. I kept expecting it to get better, but it didn’t. I didn’t realize this was going to be so full of sex (all gratuitous, including the “stuck on” incest scene). The brother and sister have a sexual encounter, then for the remainder of the book, their relationship is totally normal, and hardly another word is said about it. The writing was pretty bad as well. Hard to endure the constantly repeated phrases and choice of words. Ugh.

    Story
"Has the author ever head of a clitoris?"

Although I enjoyed this story overall it was difficult at times to keep the characters straight. The male characters seem to have first and last names that could be interchangeable. It confused me and therefore annoyed me.
These steamy love scenes with the addition of the taboo were still strangely exciting. I had no idea oral sex was given so generously to the women who could reach arousal without mention of the magic button.
