Publisher's Summary

For Logan Anderson, moving on from a traumatic past means moving back to his hometown of Castle Rock, Colorado, to start a personal-security business with his brothers. But it's not long before Logan runs into Grace Mason, his best friend from high school...and the woman who never answered his letters during his Army years.

Grace was pleasantly surprised to see Logan return to Castle Rock, despite their falling-out ten years ago. Everyone always assumed they would end up together, including Grace, who had eyes only for him. But as Logan eventually escaped their town, Grace got pulled further into her family's controlling grasp - and farther away from the man she loved.

Now, united by scars both visible and not, the two must fight to free Grace from the suffocating hold of her family. But the Masons won't let go easily - and they'll do whatever it takes to keep the couple apart.

    "Mediocre"

As mentioned in another review the storyline is a tad far fetched. The book was however easy to read and entertaining but dragged on a bit in places when the reader just wanted the female character to get to the point. Overall a typical alpha male romance novel similar to many in this genre.

    "Too far fetched"

Story line was too far fetched and dramatic, I'm sure there are ways of depicting parental abuse in a more believable mature way. The acceptance of her fate by Grace was frustrating to say the least; the incredulity of some of the events! The inaccuracies like knowing the sex of twins at 2 and half months? Maybe technology has really come on but last I checked at week 12 they couldn't tell gender then so at 10 weeks..hmmm, editor should have checked that. I appreciate this is a work of fiction but within fiction it would be better to still respect the thought processes of the adult reader because to not do so just leaves one frustrated and irritated but then, that's just my personal opinion

    "The past catches up"

I was a bit disappointed by this book. It's great if your into steamy sex scenes but I thought the dialogue was a bit laboured therefor the story appeared to be padded out . If it's your kind of genre you'll enjoy the book.

    "Not her best"

Normally Susan Stokers books a bit like fast food, you know you shouldn't eat it...but you can't help yourself... And you enjoy it. With that said, I am a fan of Stoker, I have all her books. I respect that she is venturing into a new series that is trying for realism, but with that said, this new series has some plot holes big enough for a pickup truck to drive through. I feel that an author is creating a world for the reader, and they must make that world real within itself, but once that spell breaks the reader is pushed out from the world and starts to question it. For the first time happened to me with a Stoker book. It happened a number of times actually, to the point I was questioning the writing and plot and wasn’t able to enjoy her world at all. Plot holes, they are a many. I found myself chanting "call 911" and at several points and asking the characters to WWNDD? What would Nancy Drew do? At one plot turn they have a woman being abducted on film, and grand theft auto, but the characters come off blasé with …." Ah we called the police, they'll look for her, and with that restraining order they are taking it more seriously, but its only been an hour".... Really? No i dont think so...... What is really striking is the lack of sub characters that are in law enforcement. Not one interaction with the police in the book, and that is where some of the walls crack in the world Stoker is creating. The female lead is very unlikeable at times, and you question her reasoning. The lack of police involvement in the story was attempted to be plugged with a single line..."the next week we worked with the FBI & police". And it’s an afterthought to the story, and it screams it. Another area that walls cracked in the world were a hotel room scene, where the police should have been called, if anything to say someone was found…. But no…. and it just isn’t believable as its written right now. Spoiler alert: Within the last chapters of the book, is a prison visitors scene, the female character makes an announcement about being pregnant with Male twins early in her pregnancy. The way she makes this farfetched announcement, makes her so unlikeable. That she has had doctor’s appointments without telling the father, then drops the bomb on him to smite her mother? And lets be clear, you cannot detect the gender that early in a pregnancy, determine two heartbeats? Sometimes, it just depends… but the walls of the world cracked more. And it left me wanting to research if sperm can be a factor in twins…. The book has promise, but needs rewrites for a more believable security firm plot who interacts with law enforcement, knowing that evidence needs to be collected and a case built. Without that, you ask the characters to WWNDD, especially since Stoker is departing from her “Tech super world” where her characters can make one call and get what they need.
What I’m amazed by is that none of the beta readers pointed these things out, it’s so unlike Stoker to have a world that doesn’t hold up.
So, 3 stars because I like Stoker, and I know she can do better. And hopefully this review might be viewed by her team and I hope I offered some constructive suggestions. It isn’t my aim to be mean, just honest.

    Story
    "Great book and audio!"

The narrator made this a great audio book. They did an excellent job with making the characters come alive.

The story is now one of my favorites. I am a sucker for the books where the guy has to rescue his woman from danger and boy does she need it. Her parents are psyco and she has been emotionally abused all her life. When things turn dangerous, she doesn't recognize the danger until it is too late.

The sweet side of the story is how they were crazy for each other in high school but some extenuating circumstances kept them from exploring their relationship. It is years later now and, despite misunderstandings of the past, they are still drawn to each other but have some hurdles to overcome before they can find their HEA.

    "A breath of fresh air"

This book was such a refreshing read. It had serious topics, but it wasn't the average love story, in the way of I want him, I don't want him, I want him, I don't want him type. I love how grace was very sure of what she wanted and what she didn't want, I love the fact that she didn't go willingly with her father. The amazing part was how protective all of the brothers and her friends were of her and her efforts to get away from her parents. Can't wait until the next book.

I loved this book when I read it on my kindle then I got the audio version and fell in love with it all over again. Although this is not the authors normal narrator I did like how the narrator told us the story

"Susan Stoker once again writes another book with great characters."

I got hooked reading Susan's books when I found Protecting Caroline.
From that book alone I decided to read all of the Protecting series. From there I branched out to reading every last one of her books. It is with such joy I look forward to her next book!

    "The worst of Stoker"
Would you try another book from Susan Stoker and/or Erin Bennett?

I have read every Susan Stoker book. I loved each and every one. This book feels as if someone else wrote it.

What could Susan Stoker have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The heroin was just too pathetic for a 30 year old. I mean, enough already. On and on and on she just couldn't tell her mother off!

Would you be willing to try another one of Erin Bennett’s performances?

    The narrator was fine.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Claiming Grace?

The entire middle. So boring and annoying.
