About this listen

Confusion, conflict, and constant worry can turn any household upside down—you must be raising a teen! But it doesn’t have to feel like a nonstop battle zone.

You’re a proud parent or guardian trying to set your kids off on the right path, but where do you start?

Whether your child has a disability like ADHD or Autism, or is just a typical scattered and overwhelmed teen, you find yourself asking, "How can I help?"

If you want to prepare your child for the "real world" and help them become successful adults one day, this book is your way forward. Your child is just as confused as you are about all the competing demands and expectations of being a teen in today's complex world. I understand this because I am a parent myself, a school psychologist, and a counselor. My many years of working with adolescents and their parents have shown me that growth and change are indeed possible!

Inside Executive Functioning Skills for Teens: Super Easy to Use Strategies, Games, Tools, and Activities That Work!, you will discover:

  • What executive functioning skills are, how they develop, and why they matter
  • How to help your teen if they struggle with executive functioning difficulties
  • Hands-on strategies, tools, and games to improve their executive functioning skills
  • How to help them regulate their emotions and encourage flexible thinking
  • How to raise a calm, capable, and confident child
  • And much, much more!

These are some of the most crucial years for your child, and they need guidance in dealing with some of life's more pressing concerns, such as planning, prioritizing, self-monitoring, conflict resolution, impulse control, and so on!

You can become an effective partner and your teen's best ally as you guide them through these challenges. Help your teen become a successful and independent individual. This audiobook is all you need.

Such an interesting book topic, I never thought about teaching EF to my kids, and I am a 15 year veteran home school mom. This is a great resource for parents. I especially loved chp 7: Emotional Regulation, Self-Monitoring, & Impulse Control. Great practical exercises in every chapter. Thanks for a surprisingly good listen!

As a parent, I enjoyed this book as it has alot of useful information for teens. Top be become successful is one thing, but to have tools to help make one an integral part is another. I love the chapter on organizing and staying focused as this is much a part of early success!

This a very well-written audiobook about how to help teenagers develop their essential Executive Functioning skills, which relates to the mental processes and skills needed to meet goals and get anything done. The author relays her years of experience and expertise in a manner that is easily understood and therefore accessible to anyone. I found this book to be relatable, whether you are an educator, a parent, or a teenager yourself; it is a practical guide to navigating various issues that are not so intuitively handled for most of us. The narration is also beautifully clear and suits the book well. Definitely recommend!

Imagine if you learnt things like self-control when it comes to money from an early age; how different would your choices have been? I love that this book is meant to equip us as educators and as parents to give our teens the kind of skills we wish we had developed early on - skills like time management, self-monitoring, prioritizing, conflict management and emotional regulation. It's very handy!

Gail A McHugh really knows how to write a great book that totally engages you right from the first page. If you have a teenager with ADHD, chances are that you, as a parent, might also, so the no-waffle, no overloading of medical jargon is a welcome change. Instead, she writes positively and with empathy towards the struggles of dealing with a teenager, with or without Executive Function issues. She clearly understands the frustrations of parents and outlines the possibilities of help and support. She totally realises that each child/teenager has individual needs, and she is flexible in her advice offering more than one option (I particularly like the use of the word 'could' instead of 'should'). The book really gave me food for thought - especially on Consequences and Behaviour, Working Memory Training and use of Mnemonic Devices. It brings to the fore, the things that we take for granted without realising our teen needs our support and also helps to highlight our teenagers' strengths and weaknesses and work on what needs attention. Above all, you feel like you are receiving the advice of a trusted friend.

A burst of enthusiasm and great new ideas.
