I especially liked the section on Visualization and practicing techniques that can assist you in creating a more buoyant future. I also like the section on Dealing with Your Past which provides some sound advice on coping with past events. Overall I highly recommend this book as an introductory exploration to make the reader become a better steward of his or her emotions so that we all can interact with each other in more positive ways.

A interesting and insightful look at how the brain

A interesting and insightful look at how the brain functions with emotions and it's implications on creating a better society. It presents information that is extremely relevant to today's workplace. Great book about how to be more emotionally intelligent and how true success is more predicated on being emotionally intelligent than just being intelligent. How emotional intelligence leads to more personal growth and true lasting successes in life.

I love working in higher education because I get to interact with so many students majoring in a variety of fields. I get to learn about so much just by association. But I also get to see students connect the dots throughout their liberal arts education. The English major may not like his chemistry class and the Biology major probably abhors here art class, but I enjoy seeing these students expand their minds and gain perspectives connecting academic fields together.

EQ is a subject I have researched in college and also taught at work. This book has provided a lot of grist for the mill. However, I warn anyone who plans to buy copies from editions put out before 2000 thinking that the info will be 100% accurate. I only say that because Alex Canny buys into neuroscientist Paul Alex Canny theory of the reptilian brain. While the concept is not far off, it is not accurate according to the latest research done on the subject. Still, the read is immensely interesting and should be regarded as a subject of psychological import.

These reviews are suspicious

Just look at the names on the reviewers here. I couldn’t keep listening to this. The author just repeats himself and goes on about how good being emotionally intelligent is.
