About this listen

Written by Drew Wagar under official license from the creators of, and based in the vast universe of, the seminal space trading computer game Elite: Dangerous

Lady Kahina Loren, born into the Prism system's powerful ruling family, is desperate to throw off the shackles of her privileged lifestyle and discover herself, but ambition crumbles when she faces death at the hands of the one person she thought she could trust.

With the advanced technology of the third millennium, death is not always as final as it seems, but when that technology malfunctions, is death the better option?

If you love ED then you will really enjoy this story, its charts the life of a spoiled imperial princess and how she comes from elite privilege to being on the verge of losing her life. Great narration and excellent story telling by the wonderful Drew Wagar, check him out !

an epic elite dangerous story

I'm perhaps more predisposed than most to enjoy this story, as a huge fan of the original 1984 Elite computer game, its sequels and then the more recent Elite Dangerous reboot which this is licensed from. But you don't need to have any familiarity with the game to appreciate it - Drew Wagar's writing is more than capable of standing on its own merits.

He succeeds in fleshing out the somewhat spartan background provided by the game with believable and relatable characters, and breathing life into the clash between the game's Empire and Federation superpowers. The space battles are well-written and will resonate with anyone who has played the game.

Toby Longworth did a brilliant job of narrating the audiobook version, with a variety of different voices so it's always easy to tell which character is speaking.

I do hope the sequel finds its way into audiobook form.

A worthy addition to the Elite Dangerous universe

The book is good, I have read it a couple of times until I was unable to concentrate on reading for very long. The author relates the scenery well and the characters are believable and well fleshed out.

The audiobook though. Eeesh. If I wanted to listen to a play, I would have gone elsewhere. There are times when the background sounds are louder than that of the narrator meaning some parts are missed. I don't want to hear ships flying around in a space station being so loud that you don't know what else is going on, and you miss the author's cameo appearance.

The book is good. The audiobook, not so much

Good book but ...

Quite a page turner, well developed characters and as far as I can see all within the Elite cannon.
