Summary
Ce texte de Rousseau, paru initialement dans l'Encyclopédie, souvent délaissé, voire tout à fait méconnu au profit du Contrat social, occupe pourtant toute sa place dans l'œuvre laissée par le philosophe. À ses yeux, l'économie a en charge la bonne administration des questions d'ordre public comme l'éducation, la propriété, l'impôt. Ainsi, affirme-t-il clairement, l'économie politique, c'est-à-dire l'économie de l'état doit être entièrement subordonnée à la décision politique inspirée par la volonté générale, sous peine d'aliéner définitivement la liberté de chacun. Un texte plus que jamais d'actualité, au regard de la crise financière à laquelle est aujourd'hui confronté l'ensemble de la société.
