About this listen

Major Tor Savan has built his career on one fundamental principle – protect planet Earth, whatever the personal cost. To a certain degree, he’s succeeded, warning Earth about a deadly missile strike from Mars and then being injured as his own ship fought in the battle.

But as the dust settles after the attack, Tor learns that a new crisis is threatening the planet. As a result of the missile strike, the laboratories that manufacture omegas’ hormonal suppressants have been destroyed, which means that every single omega on Earth will soon be forced to go through a heat.

Tor is unwilling to abandon his fellow soldiers to twelve hours of agony. But fortunately, he has a level of knowledge about the heats that few alphas could match. With the powers-that-be turning their backs on omegas, Tor puts together a plan to help them through their heats – a plan so risky and unlawful it could not only end his career, but also destroy the reputations of every single person involved.

But only a fool expects such daring plans to go smoothly, and when Azure, Tor’s omega lover, gets dragged into the middle of the storm, Tor finds himself having to re-evaluate every social custom and moral value he believes in.

Tor and Azure's story began in Hurricane, and continues in Lava. Books are best enjoyed in order.

Once again, Gabriel Danes delivers a standout performance. His ability to capture both the vulnerability and steel in the Omega’s voice, along with the restrained power of the Alpha lead, makes every scene gripping. The tension, the quiet moments, the emotional spirals, Danes makes them all hit home. He brings the characters to life and maintains consistency while evolving with the story. Massive credit to him for making this audiobook even more immersive.

What Worked Well:

Emotional Continuity: The pain, longing, and slow-burning romance continue with weight and authenticity.

Political Intrigue: We see more of the societal forces at play, giving depth to the world and raising the stakes.

Struggles With Identity & Acceptance: There’s a meaningful exploration of what it means to be “seen” and to fight for your right to exist authentically.

Narration Quality: As with the first, Gabriel Danes' voicework is a highlight of the entire experience.

What Could Be Improved:

Pacing Issues: At times, the plot dragged a little in the middle. Some conversations or internal monologues felt repetitive, slowing the tension instead of building it.

Limited Side Character Growth: Like the first book, most of the supporting cast feel underdeveloped. More emotional engagement with other characters could add richer layers to the story and break up the central pairing’s intensity with moments of contrast or grounding.

Missed Opportunities for Deeper Worldbuilding: While we get more political context, there are still unexplored aspects of life in space, Earth vs. Mars dynamics, and the broader implications of Omega inclusion in the military.

My Final Thoughts:

Deluge is a strong, emotionally gripping sequel that continues to challenge Omegaverse norms through its harsh realism and intimate character work. While it does have some pacing and development hiccups, the core of the story, two people defying the roles society forced on them, is still powerful. I wish I could see more depth of their relationship but enjoy every bit of it too.

I’m invested and with Gabriel Danes at the mic, I’ll absolutely be tuning in for Book Three.

Thank you!
