Summary
Three Dean Koontz novels in one collection.
Odd Interlude
Nestled on a lonely stretch along the Pacific coast, quaint roadside outpost Harmony Corner offers everything a weary traveler needs - a cozy diner, a handy service station, a cluster of motel rooms...and the Harmony family homestead presiding over it all. But when Odd Thomas and company stop to spend the night, they discover that there's more to this secluded haven than meets the eye - and that between life and death, there is something more frightening than either.
Odd Apocalypse
Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring '20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it's also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd's most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor's comforts should be welcome. But there's far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven. A harrowing taste of Roseland's terrors convinces Odd that it's time to hit the road again. Still, the prescient Annamaria insists that they've been led there for a reason. Just how deep and dreadful are the mysteries Roseland and her masters have kept for nearly a century? And what consequences await whoever is brave, or mad, enough to confront the most profound breed of evil? Odd only knows.
Deeply Odd
How do you make sure a crime that hasn't happened yet, never does? That's the critical question facing Odd Thomas, the young man with a unique ability to commune with restless spirits and help them find justice and peace.

sci-fi horror fantasy
I'm still not quite sure how I selected this for download- and can't decide which category or genre this belongs in either..........sci-fi+horror?
First thoughts were Stephen King (for the horror/ suspense) meets Brandon Sanderson's Alcatraz (for the light-hearted, quirky telling of the tale) meets X-Files (Odd even references Scully and Mulder in one scene). There's everything in these stories: horror, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, demons..... It probably doesn't help that this is my first foray into the Odd tales, and I've managed to select one out of sequence, so it does feel a little bit like the kitchen sink has been thrown into the mix.
Three separate stories, which happen consecutively, although each stands alone as a distinct tale. I wouldn't describe them as short stories -they're too long for that - rather it's a collection of adventures. Some are better than others - and that's going to be down to personal sci-fi preference.
The editor's summary gives enough of an intro, so I won't risk spoilers by reviewing further - suffice to say that these are well written tales, with good narration. If you're into sci-fi, enjoy Stephen King mixed with a slightly quirky approach, then you should enjoy this.
It loses a star for occasional rambling thoughts which had me zoning out and wanting to skip forward.
Narration is well suited to the characters and consistent across the three stories, and I will probably download another of the Odd series in the future - it is somewhat intriguing.
