Summary
The Witcher meets the The Dresden Files in this Weird Western tale by the Audible number one best-selling duo, performed by Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan).
James Crowley met his mortal end in a hail of gunfire. Now, he finds himself in purgatory, serving the White Throne to avoid falling to hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his servitude and fade away.
His not-so-sacred duty as a Hand of God? Use his new abilities to hunt down demonic beings that have infiltrated the mortal realm.
This time, the White Throne has sent him to the middle of nowhere: a Western town called Dead Acre with a saloon, a moldy church, and little else worth talking about. There isn’t even a sheriff. But the local cobbler has gone missing at the same time as a number of graves were desecrated.
Crowley must follow the clues, all while dealing with a cutthroat gang that treats Dead Acre like they own it, an extraordinary woman who makes it hard to focus, and locals not keen on strangers.
Life isn’t simple for a Hand of God.

Arthur Morgan reading a Western? Yep 🤠
So, it’s a fairly decent western horror short story. I would’ve enjoyed it anyway, but to have Roger Clark narrating made it special. He’s the American Western equivalent of Stephen Fry, in that he could read the side of a cereal box and I’d happily listen along. What does a 19th century cowboy sound like? Well, this, exactly this. His female voices are a bit……manly, but it’s a price happily paid. Off to download the next one now and pretend it really is Arthur reading me a story around the camp in Horseshoe Overlook. RDR2 fans, y’all know what I mean.

Very fitting for Roger Clark
Loved every minute.
The only fault is that it wasn't longer!
Everything you could want from a western and more! Especially if you're a supernatural fan

Roger Clark's voice!
The story was pretty decent, a little short for my liking but eh. Just good to hear that familiar voice again.

pleasantly surprised. had no expectations going in but it definitely exceeded them. Not a lover of westerns but the concept was great. Great introduction to a new series, looking forward to the next installment.

compact, not too heavy, good fun
A nicely self contained lightweight tale, entertaining and good fun. Did what it said on the tin.

A Supernatural Western
An absolutely amazing short story, Damn that was like Supernatural meets Deadwood, When James Crowley is gunned down by his gang, he finds himself in purgatory, the reason he is not in hell because he serves the White Throne, A bounty hunter hunting all sorts of demons and supernatural
entity's, His next mission is to find the culprits of the murder of a local man in Dead Acres, but what he finds is no ordinary murder, in this story we battle a gang of Lycans, A loved up necromancer and we have some awesomely blood curdling shootouts, the narration for this book is done by the one and only Roger Clark, he makes it sound like your in a movie, just brilliant, highly recommend....😁

A solid story but nowhere near Witcher or Dresden.
Witcher meets Dresden Files? Hardly!
Its amusing when outstanding books like these are compared to something like this book. They have nothing common. Might as well comoare it to sesame street!
This is a aupernatural western story. Enjoyable and competent enough but you’ll be disappointed if youre looking for something of the calibre of Dresden.
That being said its well written and well narrated. I would be interested in another story.
