About this listen

David Suchet sets out to establish what connects three of the world's major religions - and critically what divides them - as he travels the world on a personal pilgrimage of discovery.

Judaism, Islam and Christianity share far more in common than the abhorrent acts of extremists would ever suggest. When the roots of the three Abrahamic faiths are shared, why is it that they foster dissent, intolerance and disagreement? What unites them and what divides them? Is God a warmonger or a peacemaker? Why do some believers commit violence in God's name?

With the help of experts and former extremists, David sets out to answer these and many other questions.

From Jerusalem and London to New York and Northern Ireland, David investigates the motivations and twisted justifications behind religious terrorism. He reveals stories from inside high security jails and the minds of fanatics. He meets with leading scholars, survivors of extremism, reformed hate preachers and a whole host of contributors who might be able to help him get to the truth of why so much evil is justified in the name of God.

This is the story of how religion impacts society on many fundamental levels and sets humanity against itself.

Going around the world and asking people about their struggles with religion ,war, terrorism, forgiveness ....it has to be said 9 billion times, taught in schools, written down on billboards...we need more of this...and we might live in piece...one day..Do listen and talk about to your friends.

All we need is more of this

An interesting read helping us to try and understand religion. I still don't understand all the faiths but it made me think religion isn't difficult.....live in peace,....then stop using it as an excuse for power.

Thought provoking.

Religious conflicts seem to be ever-present in the news, and increasing tensions within countries feel as though they are increasing. Suchet's podcasts provide a good introduction to a more detailed consideration of the roots behind some of these conflicts through interviews with people from all three Abrahamic faiths.

Many of the interviews were about the quest for - or at least the potential of - peace. I feel that the series would have benefited from a more detailed exploration of the motivations behind those who seek or encourage conflict. It is, though, a useful and interesting route in.

Interesting Overview

This audio show really captures the struggles between the faiths and the hope for peace. I felt like I was there in Jerusalem during listening, David Suchet is so good at helping you to feel the atmosphere through the audio. David Suchet’s kind and peaceful questioning helped me to learn a lot about a topic that is normally so difficult to encapsulate.

Intriguing, intelligent and really well made.

It's a hopeful, respectful and inspiring series. It taught me a lot about what is going on in terms of conflict and peace efforts and about the history of the abrahamic faiths. Absolutely recommend it!

Beautiful and hopeful!
