Summary

Abbey

Some scary-looking aliens have just boarded Fortuna Tau, our little asteroid mining station. Kordolians, by the looks of things. What the hell do they want with this floating rust bucket? What are they even doing here?

Come to think of it, I've never seen a Kordolian up close before. They're huge and intimidating, with strange silver skin and pointed ears. They have freaky nano-armor, and they're packing a serious arsenal. We humans stand no chance against them.

When I encounter their general, I find him insufferable. Arrogant. Domineering. He won't tell me anything. I guess that's what happens when your race is kicking ass across the Nine Galaxies. You get pigheaded.

So why do I keep running into him? Why does he keep looking at me like that? And what's with this weird feeling I get when he's around? I really hope these guys fix their ship and go away soon, because I get the feeling they could be major trouble.

Tarak

Sucked into a wormhole during a fierce skirmish with an enemy ship. Spat out near a human mining station in a remote corner of the Nine Galaxies. Stuck with weak humans who operate with inferior metals and technology.

This mission couldn't get any worse.

We need to fix our craft, kill the cursed Xargek, and get out of here before the wormhole collapses. I don't really care about these humans. Their existence makes no sense to me.

So why has this strange human female captured my attention? She's messy, awkward, and she babbles nonsense half the time.

These humans are crazy. I don't understand them at all, especially this female. Why do I keep coming back to her?

I need to leave this place before I go insane.

Contains mature themes.

Rather disappointing

I had hoped for a more interesting story, but found it lacking in originality, unfortunately. The dialogue was a bit cringey at times, and this was compounded by the Narration, which was pretty dreadful. Nobody wants to hear the sexy bits done in a James Earl Jones, or Trevor MacDonald newsreader style formal tone... its just wrong (although you just have to giggle at it in the end). unlikely to revisit this author or narrator. Wanted to like it, but sorry, just wasn't possible.

Great Book, Good Listen

I loved the book and listening to this on school runs (after and before kids of course) has kept me sane many a morning/afternoon stuck in traffic. Not to sure about the male narrator imitating a woman’s voice though. Would have been better to have the woman do the female voice and vice versa. However still enjoyed and am ready to move onto book 2

So excited that there are already 8 books in the series

I found this gem just before Book 3 was released on Audible- very excited that there are 7 more books at least possible! Book 1 was a refreshing take on space romance, and the author does an amazing job at creating the “landscapes” with words. Narrators were different- but not distracting. I seriously loved the sections read by Todd McLaren.

More please, Audible Gods!!

Story was great, male narrator not so much

I really loved the story overall. The male narrator was slightly annoying in my opinion.

Excellent Story

I've read all 8 books plus the short one (4.5) in one weekend because I couldn't get enough. Now I can hardly wait for the rest of the series to come out in audible. The way the author has created the setting for the book and the characters is amazing. If you like G.A Aiken and Laurann Dohner you won't be disappointed in this series.

Read the entire series in a weekend

I read in the entire series in one weekend and I loved it! Loved the premise and loved the stories but I was not impressed with the narrators... They did and okay job but the pacing felt off to me. I hope they pick it up a better and continue the series!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I do not know.

Not what I was expecting.

This was an enjoyable first book, I look forward to more from this series. Abbey and Tarak’s story did not follow what I had anticipated by the book’s summary. I thought it would all take place on the mining station, but most of it took place on an alien planet. Admittedly the story was not without flaws. There were a few holes in the sci-fi aspect of it, but since this is more romance than sci-fi I did not complain. I look forward to Kykal and Arin’s book. Narrators are good, Todd Mclaren was good but maybe not the perfect choice for the role

Sexy elves in space! Perfection!

This is the alien romance series I've been waiting for all my adult life! Evil space dark elves are the sexy aliens I didn't know I needed. I listened to this one and then halted my life for over a week while I devoured the others. They are all SO AWESOME! The male characters are nothing short of delicious and the ladies are not wilting violets like most of the female characters in these types of stories. They are all kick-ass women! They are regular people, they have jobs, bills, mood swings. It's great!

Abbey is a great leading lady and the General...how to say this. I love him! When he comes across something he doesn't understand, he just ignores it and moves on. It's so funny and refreshing the way they navigate relating to one another.

I cannot recommend this book and this whole series enough! SO GOOD! Please chain Anna Carven to a typwriter and make her write me more of these incredible stories!

Dark Planet Warriors

Jillian Macie, Todd McLaren are quite a team during the reading of this story. They bring the story to life as well as the characters. Todd is the General of the Kordolian fleet. His deep voice sends chills down the back and brings the heart rate up. Jillian as Abbey brings a humanity to the General as well as the lighter side of him. The two together play well together and makes the story alive and heart stopping.
Fantastic story telling!

Anna and Tarek - a great love story

Any additional comments?

I was already a huge fan of the Dark Planet Warriors series. When I saw that the first book, Dark Planet Warriors, was finally available on audio I could believe my good fortune. I purchased it right away and couldn't be happier with the performances.

I didn't necessarily think of Anna's voice as sounding the way it does as narrated by Jillian Macle, but within a few pages I couldn't imagine anyone else as Anna. In fact Jillian reminds me of Ilya Kadushin, the narrator for the Twilight series. However, it took me a little longer to come to grips with Todd Mclaren for Tarek. While Todd's voice is powerful (just as I'd expect Tarek's to be) Todd sounds older than I perceived Tarek. While there is no indication of Tarek's age (at least I don't think there is) I always perceived him to be younger than middle aged. Maybe early to mid thirties or so. Tarek, as voiced by Todd Mclaren just sounds older. Still powerful and authoritative but much more mature than I imagined. However, I still enjoyed his performance.

Overall, I found listening to the book as performed by these professionals an entirely new and delightful experience. Both performances were good and brought out aspects of the characters and the story that I hadn't picked up on before. In the end I realize that I found new material to enjoy even though I had read the book at least two times already.
