About this listen

An assassin falls for the archduke she was sent to kill, but killing him might be the only way to save his soul.

Magic has two immutable rules - every spell requires a sacrifice, and every curse can be broken.

Amira Brindonu is a sorceress turned assassin, bound in a curse that forces her to obey her father, even to the point of high treason. When he orders her to kill the future emperor, she fails, but discovers a secret that could bring the whole of the empire to its knees.

The archduke is stricken by a curse that could sentence him and his people to damnation, but Amira could be the only key to breaking it. In a desperate last-ditch effort, the archduke takes Amira prisoner and makes a pact to protect her from her curse if she will help free him of his own.

As time begins to run out, Amira soon learns that there are enemies that blades can’t touch, and there are fates worse than death. Caught in a web of sorcery, intrigue, and her growing feelings for the archduke, the assassin must decide just how much she is willing to give to save the only man she’s ever loved.

Every curse can be broken, but can two cursed people save each other?

Beauty and the Beast meets The Witcher in this fantasy romance that is sure to delight fans of Sarah J. Maas, Kristin Cashore, and Leigh Bardugo.

After watching so much of Elizabeth of YouTube I was excited to find out what kind of author she was. Dendrith’s assassin is my first foray into her writings and so far I have much enjoyed the journey she has taken me on. The focus of the writing is on a story and it comes across well. I do think, however, the performance is a bit wooden which is a shame because online Elizabeth emotes so well and it’s clear her characters do. It’s rare to find a book where the author narrates and I was excited for it but feel a little saddened it’s not quite what I had hoped, however I will be recommending the audiobook to others and if Elizabeth reads this, I am humbled at the world you have sought to build and if you could add a little Steven fry into your narrations it would make a very perfect book. Keep inspiring and writing.

A story worth exploring

The performance has a quality that's reminds me of being read stories, yet keeps me listening. I love that it is the author reading and being able to give their inflections as needed to the work.

The story is well balanced and I loved it for the way it seems to dance around a few different tropes at times leaving you guessing how the next few pages will develop.

Captivating characters

A really immersive and original world with lots of intriguing pathways. Gave up listening in the end and changed to reading because I found the narration so monotonous and draining to listen to. Real shame, as the story is fab. I have watched the author (and narrator) on socials and she is very lively, so don’t know why she chose to read in such a way that kills her own creation.

Great story, terrible narrator

I'm not usually a Romance reader, but this set a new benchmark as my stepping stone from my previous sci-fi fantasy filled library
The character's relationships are a big motivator in their actions but there's other things going on and no-one seems too perfect. There's a bit of grit, which I really enjoyed.
Definitely slow burn, books 1-3 I would rate at PG but there is some adult content in books 4&5, where the descriptions of violence ramp up and relationship scenes continue after the fade to black point.
The author has a strong YouTube presence and provides some further references as to what to expect from the series, if you're undecided I suggest you check her out!

Romance with some grit

I felt like the author really loved the characters and that made me love them too. The story is promising but it definitely needs more details and less action, some interesting plot hooks.

It's not often that we see authors narrate their books and here we have an interesting case - I absolutely loved the unique perspective the author could give us - different voices and creative pauses created depth to the narrative and insight into the different personas... but... some voices were very hard to understand by a non-native speaker.

All in all, I like it.

Very promising but needs polishing
