Summary
All contact is lost with the first human colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility. The 54 colonists who called it home are presumed dead.
Three years later, a new mission sets down on the planet's surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. But it's not long before they realize the colony is not as lifeless as everyone thought. Someone is still alive - hiding out somewhere.
Yet, before they can find the elusive colonist, a strange illness starts to affect the crew. Pressure now mounts on biologist Dr. Jann Malbec to locate the source and find a way to fight it. However, as she investigates she begins to suspect a dark and deadly secret lurking within the colony. A secret that threatens not just the crew but the entire population of Earth.
With limited resources and time running out, she must find some answers and find them fast. Because if she doesn't, none of them will be going home.

Good title, wish it had been a bit longer
Felt like little time was given to get to know the characters and their motivations. There is apparently a sequel so I hope some of the unanswered questions will be answered. Overall a good read though and will give the second book a whirl as the set up is interesting.

So very predictable.
Unfortunately this book feels like it has been written by AI and also read by AI. Very predictable which made it very boring. Limited description of the landscapes, surrounding areas or the human habitat make this book not very graphic. Everything is provided on the plate in a very simple manner. I get it sometimes simplicity is good but not the entire book.

Oh, dear.
I'm really glad that I had previously read this book in print form. It's good, exciting, sci-fi and the series is enjoyable however the narrator is not impressive. If I hadn't already read the book I would have given up because her voice is incredibly irritating. This, obviously, is subjective and I would recommend listening to the sample before buying.

Disappointing
The story line was ok, but it seemed to lack depth, characters shallow and most disappointingly, there was absolutely no resolution to the main storyline at all, simply left open for a sequel. Could have been great.
The croaky narration and poor accents were not to my taste at all, further reducing my enjoyment of the book.

Poor.
Unconvincing dialogue and narration. The plot is interesting to some extent but the unrealistic description of characters thoughts and exchanges detracts from this book. Very disappointing.

Predictable and full of cliche's
This if fine if you want a few cheap thrills and spills, but it's clearly written ready to be snapped up as a screenplay and has little genuine depth as a story.
Basic plot is - Earth lose contact with first colony on Mars. Last transmission was a garbled message saying to stay away (sound familiar..!?). Team is sent to Mars to find out what happened.
Queue the immediate catastrophe
Queue the poorly integrated love story
Queue the secret double agent
Queue the incredibly unrealistic escapes made against all the odds.
A clichéd sci fi / zombie mash up following every rule that sets it up for a second rate movie straight to Netflix.
