Commissioner Basil Traverson meticulously follows the Dangerous Mutant Directive issued by the MCCD: remove any mutant dangerous to society. Crippled by one of those he hunts, laudanum keeps the pain away, even as he sinks further under its control.
When Isabeau is arrested, Basil offers a deal: He will help find Aurelia…if she will act as bait to lure her mother out of hiding.
But as Basil becomes aware of Isabeau’s unusual qualities, he begins to question the directive by which he lives. Together with the resources of the MCCD and SPAMM (a society for mutant protection), they comb London’s dark underbelly for their quarry…until Isabeau becomes a target and Basil is wounded.
However, the moon is waxing, and Isabeau's enemies have no idea of the fury of her inner beast when those she loves are threatened.
