About this listen

Betti Bryant knows she’s not supposed to be a barista five years after graduating from college, but her life is actually super adorable—except for the part where she has to endure her ex-boyfriend’s musical rendition of their breakup at the coffee shop’s Open Mic Night every Friday. When an entire local art collection is stolen from the cafe during his performance, Betti sees her chance to persuade her panicked boss to cancel Open Mic Night, at least until the crime is solved. Instead, he announces plans to sell the beloved cafe to a real estate developer, who will demolish it. Betti believes her boss will change his mind once justice is served. So, armed with a list of drink orders from the night of the crime and the sleuthiest outfit she can find at the thrift store, she sets out to investigate the theft herself. If she fails, she’s promised her sister she’ll accept whatever non-adorable entry-level corporate job she can get, abandoning her ideals about finding her own path in life. The Coffee Station will close forever.

I did enjoy this book but occasionally find the main character to be annoying, she was too stuck in the past and too indecisive for my liking, which lost a star from me. The author did gain stars for the originality in the fact that the case did not revolve around a murder like most cozy mysteries. I was also surprised who the thief was, I never saw that coming. I liked the mystery and Betti did try to work it all out but there was a number of suspicious suspects that kept her running around in circles. I did like the characters, when she wasn't whining about an ex boyfriend or the closing of the coffee shop Betti was like able just stuck in her own world with no friend's. Even her sidekick was her sister and her room mate was her sister's friend that she never speaks too.

Betti is happy with being a barista, well except on friday nights when her ex boyfriend takes over the open mic to sign songs about her. So when seven painting are stolen right under her nose and the own starts talking about selling the coffee shop, she begs for a chance to find the paintings and keep.the shop open. The only clue she has is a list of drinks orders, can she put names to the drinks in order to find the thief or at least possible witnesses? Open mic night means one of the witnesses is her ex, can
she put on her big girl pants or will it end in another humiliating song and a closed coffee shop, the only place that feels like home to Betti.

I liked the narrator. She gave the characters there own voice and even broke out into song a few times.
