About this listen

After years of slinging lattes, Betti Bryant is taking ownership of her life. She doesn’t need new friends or book club invitations to distract her from finding her way forward. And the unresolved situation with a guy she kissed a few weeks ago might as well stay unresolved.

But there’s one distraction she is not prepared for: finding a murder victim on her way to work one frigid December morning.

Suspicion falls on Betti’s roommate, Callista, who happens to be holding a baseball bat over the victim’s body when the police drive up. Almost totally sure Callista is innocent, Betti buys a new notebook, digs out her scrapbooking supplies, and makes the cutest murder board ever.

Now, on top of holding down a job (or two) and figuring out her entire future, she’s committed to finding the real killer before any more lives are ruined—including her own.

I enjoyed this book. This was a fun cozy mystery that was easy to lose yourself in. This is book two in the series and Betti is still working in a coffee shop and finding herself caught up in another police investigation, the series does work as stand alone stories, so don't worry if you haven't read the first one before making yourself a cup of coffee and sitting back to enjoy.
While the main character did get slightly annoying, she has made a plan and that involves moving on (once she has decided what job she wants) so what is the point in making friends or seeing anyone, luckily her sister was around to keep her investigating. This is an unusual train for the main character to have because she is so busy trying to push people away, that she hasn't realised she has already got both and they also made for great sidekicks. Betti does grow on you, as she gradually discovers that letting people in doesn't mean good bye. As for the mystery, the author kept it interesting with a number of twist but I had guessed who the killer was before Betti. Looking forward to my next coffee shop meeting or should I say book.

Betti is working two jobs, while she searches for her dream job which explains why she is working late on a very cold December night, it doesn't explain what to do when her roommates Callista'sboyfriend comes into the coffee shop with another girl. Before she can decide what to do she discovers his dead body outside her roommates new business. The police arrive to find Betti and baseball bat welding Callista standing over him. Things get complicated when Callista denies knowing him and with him leaving his wallet in the coffee shop, he is written of as a homeless man who froze to death during the night. Betti can't let him go unidentified but by coming clean as to what she knows, is she throwing her climate under the bus. Betti's sister scared her friend will be blamed After lying to polide, talks Betti into investigating. Can they find killer? Or why Callista is keeping secrets?
I liked the narrator. She had a pleasant voice that was easy to listen too.
