What other book might you compare City of Bones to, and why?
The book reminded me of Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games and Victoria Appleyard's Red Queen. Like City of Bones, these books have a strong female heroine who, at first, is unaware of who she is and the abilities she holds. City of Bones does differ as it is set in New York city not in a fantasy world. However, New York city is not as we know it, there is a whole shadow realm to it. Also, like The Hunger Games and Red Queen there is an element of romance in The City of Bones too.Have you listened to any of Ari Graynor’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to her performances before but her narration of City of Bones was excellent. So much so I'm a little worried about the second in the series not having her brilliant narration. (I haven't listened to the second one yet so I can not draw a comparison!)If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
City of Bones was made into a film in 2013 but I haven't seen it. Throughout the book I enjoyed the different personalities of the characters. It would be interesting to see if that actually did come through on screen.Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book! I would probably describe it as urban fantasy since it takes place in New York. I'm looking forward to reading (hearing!) more of the books in the series. CIary Fray is a teenager who lives with her mum in New York. One evening at a club with her best friend Simon she comes across a group of shadow hunters. The shadow hunters who are a part of the shadow realm can not be seen by Simon but only by Clary. What follows is an fantastic fast-paced adventure as Clary tries to find out who she is and who her family actually are. I can happily say I am well and truly hooked after the first one! If you love fantasy this is definitely worth a listen!Fantastic Fantasy!
