Summary

In the small Irish town of Knockglen, best friends Bernadette ('Benny') and Eve are inseparable. Benny is an adored only child, and Eve, a poor, birdlike orphan brought up by nuns.

On their first day at University College, Dublin, a fatal road accident brings the pair together with fellow students Nan Mahon and Jack Foley, and new friendships are quickly struck. Jack and Nan introduce Eve and Benny to a life of excitement and sophistication. But beneath their carefree existence trouble is brewing for the circle of friends.

Warmth and laughter are interwoven with sadness in this compassionate and absorbing tale of friends whose lives, over a period of ten years, become entwined.

Circle of Friends

Excellent, beautifully read and a captivating, but easy going story line. I will listen to more of Maeve Binchy

My absolute favourite Binchy

I just love everything about this. About the fourth time I’ve returned to it, Kate Binchy’s narration is perfection. I love most of her mother’s books but this one is special. The characters, the twists and humour are wonderful. Intertwined lives as Binchy did the best. Wonderful

Wonderfull!

Have read this many years ago and been very disappointed by the film version. This audio was wonderfull. The narration was superb and I have revived my faith in Maeve Binchy's "yarn spinning" abilities!

A fabulous holiday listen

Kate Binchey's narration never fails she has a wonderful knack of bringing the characters to life and making them very believeable. Whilst the storyline is fairly light it manages to hold the listeners attention to the very end.

I’ve seen the film

Having seen the film, I would never normally read a book afterwards.
I did so enjoy this movie so though I would give it a spin. I enjoyed the story and was kept interested as it was somewhat different from the film. I really enjoyed the narration too.

Wonderful reading

On occasion I’m put off an audio book by the reader but Kate Binchy enhances the story with her reading. It’s such a good novel in any event, beautifully written characters and places. As it ended I feel like I will miss it all. Well done, saw me through a difficult patch thank you.
