Publisher's Summary

Cora's a young girl with two dreams: to be a dragon jockey when she grows up and to own a pet dragon now. She constantly buys "egg packs" at the dragon emporium in hopes that one will hatch into a rare pet-sized dragon, but only gets short-lived mayflies. However, when an unexpected egg does develop into something new, Cora may be over her head.

"What kid doesn't want a pet Dragon?"

H L Burke did a fantastic job of writing this from a child's point of view the quote "Out of the mouths of babes comes to mind". Ok firstly let me tell you the basic framework of the story:In Cora's world Dragons are as cats and dogs are to us.Beloved louse pets. The larger Dragons are taking up the roles that horses play in our lives and Cora...Cora wants nothing more than to have her very own pet dragon !She wants to be dragon rider when she is alll growed ups but for now,now she wants a pet dragon. So Cora tries with the eggs she buys ,unfortunately all she is getting are mayfly dragons which I'm sure you can guess from the name are very small and short lived. The dragon eggs ae sold by the adults to the rich to try to limit if not abolish dragons in the wild. When Cora is faced with her hearts desire,a dragon of her very own, she begins to realize that what the adults have been doing is wrong and that people shouldn't own dragons they should be wild and free.Cora is as much her dragons human as her dragon is her dragon. With this realization comes a falling out with her father.I loved this book I have listened to it 4 or 5 times I put it on when I babysit as a bedtime story .Big mistake the first time but after they had heard it once they felt safe and always wanted it when they went to sleep. My friend who I babysit for has bought it and said they listen every night .Sheri Sheridan did a superb job of bringing the pages of wonder, fantasy and heartwarming creativity to life.I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review,as always , is my honest opinion.Beautiful.

"Every child wants a pet dragon"
Would you consider the audio edition of Cora and the Nurse Dragon to be better than the print version?

I believe audio is becoming the choice method for people too busy to read a book, but I still love to turn pages and I'm sure kids do too. The producer of this book was very good.

What did you like best about this story?

From grandparents who sang "Puff the Magic Dragon" to the parents who grew up with "Pete's Dragon," we each have had a dream at some point of coming face to face with a mild-mannered dragon who would befriend us. Cora and her friends live in a world where dragons are common house pets, and the larger ones have replaced horses at the races. What a delightful world it is, filled with dragons as small as a Mayfly to those the size of a house cat. But there are the rare larger dragons and kids can be involved in a lottery game to see what type of dragon they will get for their precious coins. The problem is that the eggs typically only produce the Mayfly dragons who live a very short life. The laws are meant to eliminate dragons in the wild and support the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy by making them a commodity. I loved the fact that Cora and her friends were able to see the injustices created by the adults and their dedication to protecting those things meant to be wild.

What about Sheri Sheridan’s performance did you like?

The performance was good, but I felt like it lacked the kind of excitement a young person would feel reading this story. It was a solid performance, but I could only give it four stars because I couldn't feel the excitement in her voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was touched so much by the moment when the bully showed his weak side. Anything more would be a spoiler.

    Any additional comments?

I had purchased the ebook several months ago, but hadn't had a chance to read it yet when the author offered an audible code. The timing was perfect because I was going to have some eye surgery and wouldn't be able to work for a few days. This is my honest review of the audio book.

    "Time to get this book"

H L Burke did a great job with this book. I have always as a kid loved the stories where a kid wanted an animal and in the end received one. Cora and the Nurse Dragon has that same feel with a slight twist. Instead of being a dog or a horse, Cora loves dragons! Burke gave us that and more.
Sheri Sheridan added to this great story with her narrative, she brings you in, in spades.
Adventure awaits Cora and her friend as they raise pet dragon eggs. Take a listen you won't be disappointed.
I think this should be a made for tv movie. Hint hint.
This is a MUST get book. Use a credit

“I was provided this free review copy audiobook by the author.” This review is for the audiobook version of Cora and the Nurse Dragon written by H.L. Burke and narrated by Sheri Sheridan. This was a most excellent book. It was a surprise find and when I realized it was about dragons, and dragon eggs and a young girl my first impression (no pun intended) was, “hmmm, Pern clone…?” Then I started listening and that was the end of those thoughts. This was a totally different storyline and world. From the very beginning I became hooked and didn’t want to stop listening for anything. This was probably the quickest I ever got through an audio book. This is a great story for children and adults. The characters are well developed, the story line consistent, understandable and flows well throughout the story. The narrator couldn’t have done a better job. I was mesmerized during the entire story. Overall I was very happy with finding this book and can’t recommend it enough to other readers (listeners). The only problem or fault I had with this book is that it ended…! I hope the author creates more books within this world and continues the story line. I for one will be looking forward to this and will be purchasing any future works along this storyline. I also intend to check out books by this author and narrator. Again, well done!

"A Miniature Dragon for a Full Size Adventure"
Where does Cora and the Nurse Dragon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was definitely enjoyable and a tale I would listen to with a younger audience. I enjoy a children's book now and again and like to review them for other parents and grandparents to have an unbiased review to weigh with their decisions.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Abry was adorable and smart. She was also brave and resourceful.<br/>Cora was a magnificent MC because she saw things through innocent and wonderment eyes.

What about Sheri Sheridan’s performance did you like?

She was able to capture this world and bring it to life. The dragons were a part of their world and she made it seem natural. She brought the girls' confusions to the reader when they faced predicaments.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Miniature Dragon takes on a Full Size Adventure

    Story
"Great animal story with a twist--Dragons!"

Growing up I loved Walter Farley and Jim Kjelgard. The stories of the boy who loved a horse or a dog but couldn't afford it. He'd do anything to get one. Cora and the Nurse Dragon has that same feel with a slight twist. Instead of being a dog or a horse, Cora loves dragons!
The story moved along at a good pace with the narrator adding to the enjoyment. Adventure awaits Cora and her friend as they raise pet dragon eggs. When Cora finds an egg that hatches into something other than the normal kind of dragon, she finds herself faced with decisions that bring her in conflict with her father.
I loved the story. It had the feel of a great animal tale. If it was a movie it almost could be called a chick flick, due to the emotions it evoked at the end.
I received a free copy of the audio book.

    Story
    "Pet Dragons? Yes, please."
Would you listen to Cora and the Nurse Dragon again? Why?

Yes, it is a very fun listen. I love the concept this author has for dragons. It's much like a lizard or a mouse in our world. It's the common pet that every child wants to have. The catch? They're the size of dragonflies, well, most of them. I expect to listen to this again if the rest of the series comes to audible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cora and the Nurse Dragon?

When she first discovers the dragon is a nurse dragon, and its attention to the eggs.

What about Sheri Sheridan’s performance did you like?

She did a fantastic job, both getting excited at the right moments, and clear narrative. I was very happy with the narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Would you like a pet dragon? The size of a dragonfly, or a large cat? Hatch an egg to find out.

    Any additional comments?

This was a fun listen, a story that reflects on friendship, bullies, and the desire to do good. I forsee this being a fantastic series.
