Perfect Murder Mystery for Dog Lovers everywhere
A man and his dog called Sherlock.
This book is reminiscent of Qwilleran books who had his cat called Koko each and every one I own and love and have often wished someone would write a similar series with a dog or two and Jeffrey Poole has.
There are not so many cosy murder mysteries out there where the main character is a man which makes a nice change yet it works so well.
The story is told in the first person by Zac the main character who has a slightly unusual way of earning a living.
The narrator Bob Johnson really does bring Zac alive to me.
I love the style of the writing so I would enjoy reading the book but the way the narrator portrays Zac really is the icing on the cake.
Before I have finished this book I was looking on Audible to see if there were any more of the series available but only found one - which I bought. I am really hoping that more books in the series will soon be made available - I will be checking frequently.
The dog is not the usual breed you come across in stories and if the author is not a dog lover he has done his research into dogs and his characters give information about them that any true dog lovers know but love to hear others say. Zac although always had liked dogs had never owned one and when he found himself suddenly a dog parent is constantly surprised by his dogs cleverness and people around him assure him he is totally underestimating how brilliant and wonderful dogs are - yes I am a total dog lover so any book in which dogs are seen as almost better than humans in certain circumstances is going to get the thumbs up from me even if the actual story is not to my taste
BUT this story is not its a great little murder mystery with a good storyline and a totally believable plot with no suspending of belief needed.
I am totally in love with Sherlock and Zac is certainly a guy I would love to know ( just don't tell my husband).
I am listening to the second book as I am typing this and Oh please Audible record the rest so those of us who are hooked on audiobooks can enjoy more of both Jeffery and Bobs combination.
I was given this book in the hope I would give a review and sadly it languished on my to listen to list for few months before I actually listened to it and for this, I am sorry to both the author and narrator and for myself as I missed out on this lovely book for so long.

Meet your new daddy.
A book filled with querky characters, fun and a nice little mystery, too.
Zack Anderson is an author. His books, sexy romance novels enjoyed by both men and women, sell well. At least, they did until the death of his wife in a car crash six months before. Since then his writing seems to have fallen flat. So when he becomes the beneficiary of an estate, with winery, thanks to his wife's great aunt, he decides to make a new start and move to Oregon. It changes his whole life as he reconnects with an old friend, makes some new ones, and some enemies, aquires a remarkable corgi named, appropriately, Sherlock - and gets arrested for murder on his first day there.
This is a well constructed book, deliciously written in the first person, with excellent characterisation and a twisty little plot set in very small town Oregon where everyone knows almost everyone else's business. Bob Johnson becomes self confessed 'lazy' author Zack as he faces up to slightly insane locals and gets to know, and enjoy, his new home town and learn a little about wine in a place boasting 24 wineries and which holds an annual wine tasting festival which brings in tourists by the bus load. The text is natural, humourous and this is fully expressed in Mr.Johnson's warm narration, his voice full of cadence and expression: a very believable, likeable Zack.
At my request, I was really fortunate to be gifted a complimentary copy of the Case of the One Eyed Tiger, by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. It was a very enjoyable delight, both book and narrator's performance working together perfectly. A definite recommend to anyone (other than those who only like furious and bloody action). And I will definitely be looking out for more to come in the future.

Witty mystery for dog lovers
I was provided with a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.
I have to say I was gripped by this story from the beginning as I found the main character to be sympathetic, understandable and funny in equal measures. The author deliberately makes the character slightly dim about technology to explain certain plot devices, and the best part is that it's completely believable. I have friends who act the same way with their smart phones and look at technology as if it's something to be scared of.
Having been a dog lover all my life and whose friends are dog lovers, I recognised behaviours in the main character that are enacted in real life, talking to your dog as if it understands you, assigning them human emotions, and finding your life is taken over by your dog, willingly or not.
The narrator does a good job in defining the characters and certainly had a good tone for this story. The song Natalie could have ruined the light hearted nature comedic aspects, like the mouse, but Bob's voice picked out the right tones at the right time.
Loved this and would be more than happy to read more of this author's work.

A Really Enjoyable Cozy Mystery Series
I was lucky enough to score a free copy of the second book in this series, which was my introduction to this series. After completing that book, I enjoyed it so much that I bought the first book in the series.
There is nothing complex or insightful about this book/story but this book [and the second book in the series] is just a nice way to spend a few hours. There is some good humor and a likeable main character in Zach Anderson, a romance writer. Zach, recently widowed inherits a winery in Oregon from his late wife's aunt and decides to move there to make a fresh start. Very soon after arriving, Zach is accused of murder. With his recently adopted Corgi Sherlock's help, he has to figure out the true perpetrator. There are some humorous cultural references sprinkled throughout the book.
The narrator, Bob Johnson, has a nice easy tone and does a great job.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

We have here a sad-sack widower who tragically lost the love of his life six months ago and takes advantage of an inheritance to start over. Suddenly he finds himself a dog owner and up to his neck in trouble--and he hasn't even been in town for 24 hours!

Case of the One-Eyed Tiger
Zack Anderson didn’t have a very warm welcome to his new town. Within hours of arriving, he found himself as the main suspect in a robbery and murder. One positive thing that happened was that he adopted a corgi named Sherlock. Sherlock certainly lived up to his name, as he had a real knack for discovering clues.
This cozy mystery actually kept me guessing up until things were starting to be revealed. I’m looking forward to seeing where this new series goes!

So entertaining
I listened to this audiobook during a particularly boring drive througt Nebraska. Time flew by and I'm sorely disappointed that the next Corgi Files book isn't available yet.
The Case of the One-Eyed Tiger was engaging and entertaining. The characters are well-drawn and I want to know more about them in the next story. And the Corgi, Sherlock, grabbed me from the first intro, as he asked to be adopted.
One warning: there is some cursing in the story, although not anything too awful. If not for that, this would be PG.

Loved everything about this!!
The story and narrations were perfect together. Loved the psychic dog portrayal and the learning curve Zack had to go on. loved the back and forth of "I'll get back to this later..." It was like a good buddy telling you a great story. And about those swear words--There were apologies extended to the affronted characters, and really this was banter among friends. Can't wait for the next!

Great Dog-Cozy Mystery
First off Jeffery Pole is a new author to me. This book is the first in this fun series. I so enjoyed the wit and humor of the lead character Zack Anderson. Then there is his corgi what for it... Sherlock yep the dogs name is Sherlock. I found this cozy mystery so fun I can't wait to read the next in the series. Bob Johnson does a great job of narrating this book too. Just a no nonsense kind of voice that helps to deliver the wit and humor well. If you are looking to be entertained by a book look no farther this is it. I was gifted this audio book with the understanding I would leave an honest review.
