Summary

In her highly-anticipated nonfiction debut, humorist, popular blogger, and USA Today best-selling author Susannah B. Lewis (Whoa! Susannah) uses dry wit and an eye for the absurd to find laughter in even the most challenging circumstances.

Millions of online fans have flocked to Susannah B. Lewis's hysterical, take-no-prisoners videos that capture her uproarious yet deeply faithful view of the world. Now she brings to book form her keen eye for the absurd as she reveals her experiences growing up in a small Tennessee town. From the time an escaped albino panther wandered into her backyard to the Thanksgiving when an egg in the table's centerpiece hatched a baby chicken to the kind neighbors who brought casseroles in Tupperware for months - even years - after her father died when she was just 11 years old, the stories she tells delve deeply into the rich culture of the South that molded her. Clinging to the promises of God in times of grief and looking for every opportunity to laugh, Lewis is the wry yet wise girl next door who invites you to sit a spell beside her on the front porch.

Loved it!

Susannah Lewis is easy to relate to; time flew by listening to her book. She narrates this herself; it's like listening to an old friend talk about life's ups and downs, finding joy (eventually) in all things. I laughed and cried, and generally felt like someone else in the world felt like I have felt at times.
Highly recommend!

OK

Slow, predictable family stories, another play on Southern life. I got bored and did not finish.

Not what I was looking for

So, I will really give credit where it's due. Susan b. Lewis can tell a very good story. And I know everything about her that she wants me to, like stories about her family, she's a southern American woman, she's a mother, etc.

I wasn't a fan that her advice to over coming any problem she had in life was to look to God for guidance. I bet that this book is very comforting to people who worship Him. I am not. I was looking for more of a fun, happy, self help book. So I suppose I just wasn't the audience for this.

The narrator/author did a FANTASTIC job. She had inflection where it was needed, she tried not to speak monotone throughout, and it did keep me interested long after the material had bored me.

I loved listening to Susannah’s stories, her southern drawl and the way she infused God’s teaching and Bible verses into everyday life stuff. I already want to listen to it again!

Amazing read for anyone who has lost anyone

I never really leave long reviews in books. This one is different....

I often listen to audio books when I drive or paint. I started a new book by Susannah B. Lewis titled, "You Can't Make This Stuff up, finding the upside in Life's Downs. This is an amazing book. I love that I'm only half way through, and I ADORE this book. I laughed till my sides ached, I cried so hard I had to pull my car over when she spoke about losing her parents. I lost my parents and my husband in a short time, The feelings Susannah described reminded me so very much of my own grief journey. I found myself pulling for her and her husband when their marriage was rocky, and was elated when they brought Christ into the center of their marriage and things turned around. Thank you Susannah for writing this book. I see myself in a lot of your stories. Thank you for being so honest and transparent about your life and struggles. You've helped to remind me how important joy and laughter are to life. God bless you.
