Summary
Two small children - playing a game called 'Witch-Hunter' - place a curse on a young woman eating lunch in a church courtyard. An hour later the woman is found dead. Then a society photographer is stabbed to death in a nearby park and suddenly a link emerges between the two cases. As the members of the Peculiar Crimes Unit investigate, they realise that the case might not just end in disaster - it might also get everyone killed.

A book to listen to again
The book was very well read, I could not put it down. The old detectives who should be retired gave it a sort of black comedy, brilliant. I will listen to it again.

Guilty pleasure
As usual if I have read something harrowing previously I go for another Bryant and May.
They are consistently witty cleverly written well read and a perfect antidote. Recommend you try this author too.

Just love Bryant and May!
Always fun to listen to, narration excellent and engaging. I have more already in my library waiting for my next treat. there are so many interesting facts of old London threaded through the stories, really enlightening and make sense of some of my trips around historical areas such as Fleet Street and the Law courts.

Again…
…brilliantly clever, funny, entertaining and, at some points, edge of seat exciting. Long may these old codgers flourish!

A cautionary tale that resonates with current politics
This is a delightful book full of clever twists and entertaining observations. Both amusing and horrifying. I enjoyed this more than earlier books in the series. The blend of facts, fantasy and psychological insights is remarkable. Well worth a read or a listen! The PCU are the iconoclastic heroes we could do with now!

Satisfyingly silly
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you like classic crime fiction, then this is it with a twist.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bryant and May and the Invisible Code?
Any Bryant moment, but the bit where he moves into his new flat is priceless.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Where they found one of the victims in the Soane Museum.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No, but it was certainly thrilling in places.
Any additional comments?
The premise of these stories is outstandingly silly but Christopher Fowler manages to write a perfect pastiche of the classic detective novel with some outlandish moments, without ever losing the sense of reality. A very neat trick indeed. I have loved reading his books and have listened to this audio recording several times.

Marvellous
I have been an Audible subscriber for several years. This has been the best thriller I have ever listened to. It might not enthral younger listeners but if you are over 50 and/or a Londoner it is brilliant. I am now going back to earlier ones in the series. I’m hooked!
