About this listen

Ex-cop Grant Foxx’s life is thrown into chaos when a beautiful woman with a dangerous secret begins working at his distillery – in the first book in a bourbon-infused romantic suspense trilogy featuring mystery, murder and lots of spice.

FEATURING DUET NARRATION

In Fiasco, Kentucky, there is one rule: never fall for a Foxx brother. Any woman who did ended up dead – or so the rumour goes.

Townies call it a curse. But I’ve lived it, and I won’t survive it again. I’m not a cop anymore, but I’ve seen enough danger to know that Laney Young, the beautiful stranger who just showed up in my town, is running from something. She’s lying about where she came from and what she’s doing here.

I don’t want her near the quiet life I’ve made for myself, but she’s everywhere: working at my distillery, living in our guest house, I can’t avoid her. And the way she dishes out attitude from that pretty mouth of hers has me wanting things I’ve sworn to myself I’d never want again.

When her past shows up and mingles too closely with mine, her lies begin to unravel. I mess up, dig too far, and get too close. Only two things have the power to keep her safe now: bourbon and lies.

This was nice bourbon story with broody yearning hero and smart mouth funny whitty heroine. The plot was predictable, but I didn’t mind, loved duet narration and both narrators were great. Loved Foxx’s brother trio and I will listen to the other two 😊

Nice bourbon story

Love this story, it's funny, sweet and makes your heart skip a beat. It has a little twist towards the end that I didn't see coming, it kept my interest throughout the story.
It's the first book I've read from this author and I will be looking for more, great story with hunky brothers and bourbon, The narration was spectacular I love Samantha Brentmoor and Connor is also very high on my list (but only my 2nd book with him) I love narrators that read like they are talking to you, I always feel that no matter how good a story is if you're listening to it the narrators make it or break it and they both did great 😃. The spice was HOT 🔥🔥🔥

This is sooooo hot

I went into this knowing very little other than that this is meant to be a romantic suspense with a brooding, distillery-owning brother and an FMC in hiding. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to its potential or my expectations, given the way I've seen people talk about it.

The synopsis sounded like it would be right up my street, but the execution in both the suspense and chemistry/romance wasn't there. There was attraction/lust at first sight between Laney & Grant, but their dynamic never moved past the lust stage and was very much spice-focused rather than any sort of deep emotional connection being made. The spice that was there was detailed and descriptive, but this book needed more than that. The romance was surface level, and given this book is nearing 500 pages, that shouldn't have been the case. I found the suspense to also be underdeveloped; not enough of it was woven throughout, and very little tension was built because of it, so the pacing of the whole story felt off. Both the main and side characters were okay but again lacked depth considering their tragic pasts, etc., and there wasn't really anything memorable about them or their interactions.

I'm gutted because I was really in the mood for a Romantic Suspense that would grip my attention, and my experience of this was average at best. Even with the talented Samantha Brentmoor & Connor Crais narrating, this book didn't capture my attention or deliver a story in the way I expected it to, and I'm left feeling underwhelmed. I will give book 2 of this series a go at some point to see how I get along with it, but in all honesty, I'm in no rush to pick it up after this. 🌶🌶.5
