About this listen

Twenty years ago, Kristin Park and Sheryl Johnson were brought together by wine. Is wine also what will tear them apart today? Beneath the Surface goes back in time to the moment Kristin and Sheryl first meet, and offers a revelatory glimpse into the ups and downs of their seemingly perfect relationship. Grab a cup of coffee - or a glass of wine - and find out what really happens behind the closed doors of The Pink Bean.

Don't miss this brand-new installment, and origin story, of best-selling lesbian romance author Harper Bliss's much-loved Pink Bean series.

The story starts well and the two main characters get together very early on. Then... that's more or less about it. 50% of the book could have been left out. The style of setting is as good as ever, but the whole book is let down by a story lacking interest. I feel slightly cheated. Readers/listeners hoping for a romance like No Strings Attached may want to look somewhere else because this is more of a life angst story, something out of a TV soap than a romance novel.

Average prequel to No Strings Attached

A decent prequel which is needed to make better sense of the rest although why not just start at the beginning, it should be book one ? The books aren't really best approached as standalone because all the characters are intertwined throughout the series.I find changing the character voices between books to be off putting and a little confusing, which happens alot with books in a series .

decent prequel.....

This book needs to come with warnings as it deals with childhood trauma and alcoholism. it handles them well until the end, when it gave into a quickened ending that felt just slightly of victim blaming. However, despite that I found the story engaging and the use of time a useful gage for how things take time to change & it isn't all overnight. A good prequel that did not try to stay in a mushy unrealistic space but to show people have flaws but that doesn't stop them being loveable.

Good & took on difficult topics
