About this listen

Bedtime stories are narrated by the world's most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don't stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

The Audible blurb describes these as stories with no beginning, middle or end. I couldn’t understand this concept so downloaded them out of curiosity. In fact they are not stories so much as short lectures or chats, on topics ranging from the mundane (quilt-collecting, cooking and baseball) to the esoteric (philosophy and mathematics).

The blurb also says that these ‘stories’ are ‘narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices’, so I was expecting to hear from familiar actors, presenters or voice artists. This can be really helpful as a familiar voice is more soothing when you’re trying to get to sleep. However, so far the only reader familiar to me has been Tony Shalhoub. He does have a great voice and I was asleep before he got halfway through his talk on the history of maths!

So although these stories are not what I was expecting, I think most listeners will find something here to interest them and to help them sleep. And they’re free, so what have you got to lose?
