About this listen

The life of a courtesan in Pompeii is glittering, yet precarious....

Amara has escaped her life as a slave in the town's most notorious brothel, but now her existence depends on the affections of her patron: a man she might not know as well as she once thought.

At night, she dreams of the wolf den, still haunted by her past. Amara longs for the women she was forced to leave behind and worse, finds herself pursued by the man who once owned her. In order to be free, she will need to be as ruthless as he is.

Amara knows her existence in Pompeii is subject to Venus, the goddess of love. Yet finding love may prove to be the most dangerous act of all.

We return to Pompeii for the second instalment in Elodie Harper's Wolf Den Trilogy, reimagining the lives of the women from the town's lupanar.

The character of the protagonist changes and she does many things inconsistent with her character in the previous book and with a person who has been through a trauma, in my opinion.

The story is not as compelling as the first book

It is not always easy listening to hear of the historically accurate plight of slaves in Ancient Roman times but Amora is a courageous woman who will fight to survive and love where she can. Can't wait for the next part of her story so brilliantly read.

Amora continues her struggle

The narrator of this book is incredible. The way she can change the intonation of her voice for each character is amazing

Second in The Wolf Den trilogy, the novel continues to tell the story of Amara and her slave friends - and foes.

Set in Pompeii in the first century, there's an evocative sense of what life may have been like then. The culture of slave ownership is sobering. But there's something refreshing about their openness towards sex and relationships... If only it wasn't men who, once again, hold the power.

The pertinent quotes from Pompeii grafitti and writers that preface each chapter are an inspired touch. And I adore the evolution of the wild, fierce slave Britannica.

Looking forward to the final installment to see what happens next!

Oh I'm invested in this series now

Excellently narrated. Great story and characters. Highly recommended for a very immersive listen. Read Wolf Den and immediately had to download book 2.
