About this listen

When the body of a renowned British archeologist is found inside a sarcophagus he was bringing back from a dig in Egypt, Redmond and Haze must determine who aboard the Sea Witch had reason to want him dead. The method of murder suggests it was someone familiar with the funerary rites of the Ancient Egyptians, casting suspicion on members of the expedition, but there were others aboard the vessel who might have harbored a grudge against Blake Upton for reasons unconnected to the dig.

Confronted with professional jealousy, affairs of the heart, simmering resentment, and corrosive blame, Redmond and Haze must solve the case before the killer strikes again.

Perfect for fans of C.S. Harris and Anne Perry.

I love this series . So well researched, you can find yourself in Victorian London. Fascinating and intricate plots, and a writing style that invites you to explore the character, loves and lives of Jason Redmond and Daniel Haze , as well as the crimes they are solving , a convincing performance with a great range of voices from Wendy Wolfson.

I enjoyed listening to this book, I thought that the plot was the most Agatha Christie style so far, and the ending was clever and touching at the same time.

The emotional turmoil that detective Daniel is experiencing is an interesting side plot, at times I really dislike him but I think that it is probably how the author wants us to feel about him… and I understand that couple therapy wasn’t exactly available in the Victorian era.

For me there were just too many side characters this time and at it was difficult to remember who was who (I admit that it usually takes me only 2 days to finish a book, but as I was busy with life I took me around a week for this one so maybe I wasn’t concentrating as much).

I still really dislike the reader, as I did for all the previous books, I just cannot get used to her “style”, I think that she only adjust the volume of her voice for different characters, some just whisper in the most annoying way, but there are no emotions in her voice… how sad, because I actually think that this series is really a great listen!

Another good mystery for Redmond and Hase

So far I have listened to this and all the previous books. They are all equally well written, the characters are developing more and more as the series goes along, with some excellent twists and turns.
The narrator is very good, although some of the characters blend into each other and the accents are a little suspect - however I couldn't do it at all, so who am I to judge. Wendy Wolfson does a great job of bringing the book to life.
Highly recommend these books to anyone who wants an easy listen with an edge.
