Critic reviews

I read it in a breathless day and a half. Such a perfect balance of courtroom drama and family drama, so smooth and assured, it just flowed, seamlessly. I loved every page, every character, every twist and turn (Lisa Jewell)
One of the best courtroom dramas I've ever read - keeps you guessing right up to the very end (Cara Hunter)
I raced through the impressive No Further Questions. Loved this gripping and thought-provoking read (B A Paris)
I was totally swept up - and challenged - by this dark courtroom drama and am still wrestling with the brilliantly written dilemma at its heart (Fiona Barton)
This is a deeply gratifying, taut courtroom drama and so much more. I don't know how Gillian did it, but I'm so happy she did (Caroline Kepnes)
Gripping, cleverly-constructed, and heart-wrenching. Gillian McAllister uses her inside knowledge of the law to produce a truly original thriller that you won't be able to put down. Bravo! (Paula Daly)
Gillian McAllister isn't afraid to tread where some authors are scared to go. Intelligent. Compulsive. Heart-wrenching. Unforgettable (Jane Corry)
An ingeniously constructed courtroom drama with real flesh-and-blood characters and cliff-hanging suspense (Louise Candlish)
The verdict - lock me up so I can read it again! Unforgettable. Gillian McAllister has a new fan in me (Liz Lawler)
I couldn't put No Further Questions down. An original, beautifully written and moving story about sisters that had me racing through the pages. That ending will stay with me for a long time. Perfect (Claire Douglas)

Although the story is okay (and I don’t know how it ends) I got very frustrated when trying to listen to this wherever I was. If I was driving I couldn’t hear the main character, when listening on my echo I couldn’t turn it up loud enough to hear her. Very, very annoying. The story seemed okay but no good if you can’t hear it.

The main persons voice is far too low

I thought this book was beautifully written. The characters were so well defined and as a listener, I had great empathy for them. It is a very sad story and at times I felt myself close to tears. How easily things can go wrong and events can spiral. This book is very thought-provoking, who is to blame, it asks some very searching questions about responsibility and how people cope in difficult situations. The only niggle I had was the narrator for Martha I did find her style grating at times there were some very intonations that seemed out of sync with the narrative and context. All in all, I would recommend this book.

Beautifully crafted moving story of terrible loss

I'm sorry but I really didn't enjoy this book. Generally speaking I find books that consist mainly of narration and very little dialogue, lack drama and immediacy. Dialogue gives the protagonists life, it expresses their personalities and creates an emotional bond between them and the reader. This book had very little dialogue and that there was, was stilted and unexpressive with no individual charactisation in it.
Unnecessary details in the descriptions wasted words, was irritating and didn't compensate for the lack of charactisation.
From the book's blurb, and the multipule narractors, I expected a dialogue-rich court room drama but was sadly disappointed.
I finally got bored and skipping the biggest section of the book, to just read the last five chapters.

Disappointing

Enjoyed the story, was eager to find out what happened. The narration was quite irritating and Martha's voice annoyed me quite alot!
