Summary

So you want to be a hero?

Millionaire CEO Adam Drake overcame a tortured past to take control of his life and build his own gaming empire. The final piece falls into place with his newfound love for brilliant geek girl blogger Mia Strong. Now Adam is at the top of his game.

Your princess is in another castle.

Then Mia suddenly breaks things off, leaving Adam in the dark. He senses she needs his help but that she's too stubborn or scared to ask. The more he tries to take control, the further she shies away. This is one problem he can't solve by writing a check or a few clever lines of code.

He will have to dig deep and put himself at risk...or else risk losing her forever.

This new adult book is intended for readers over the age of 18 due to adult language, sexual content, and adult situations.

Warning: This book ends on a cliffhanger.

Thoroughly put me through the ringer.

This book really frustrated me the push and pull between Adam and Mia had me almost tearing my hair out...lol..and Sometimes I felt so bad for Adam because he was being left in the dark about a secret Mia was hiding from him.
This is the second book and is not a standalone,
Mia and Adam are on again off again in this book.
Jason Clarke is Excellent traversing between male and female characters,I felt every emotion through his telling of the story.Perfect.
I have given this book 5 Stars because now is an excellent, emotional read but I did honestly struggle with it.But I think that is because I am such an emotional reader and tend to get too involved in stories and what characters are going through,so I feel EVERYTHING.Which is a credit to Brenna Aubrey and her phenomenal writing.I
Highly recommend it.

If you aren’t afraid of an unhealthy dose of angst

I knew most of book one’s story because I played it in the Chapters app, so I wasn’t afraid to start at book 2. I shouldn’t have worried: there’s enough flashbacks to get the gist of what happened before. It isn’t repetitive though, because book one is written through Emilia’s POV, while book 2 is through Adam’s perspective. You can either read book one first, or not, it doesn’t matter.

It was quite interesting to get only one POV here, because a lot of Emilia’s actions don’t really make sense, so you get to see Adam make mistake after mistake and totally screw up the wonderful relationship he has with Emilia at the beginning of the book. Not the happiest story ever written, but it was somewhat original.

There was some subplot revolving around video games’ impact on weak minds, and the pleasure of online gaming. This part of the series is much more present here than it was in the first book. The gamer in me rejoiced.

As for the narration, Jason Clarke uses a softer voice here, actually is natural voice, and it sounds perfect. He does an amazing job, as always.

If you aren’t afraid of an unhealthy dose of angst, you can try this book, knowing it ends on a cliffhanger.

Enjoyable but quite predictable

storyline a bit predictable but at least it no longer resembles fifty shades of gray

at any turn

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, can't wait for the third.
Lovely to hear a man's perspective, not just a boring millionaire/ billionaire storyline about sex and money

To much

This story is so extended and to dragged on. It was forced and milked to much that I was getting sick and tired of listening to it. However the performance was great.

Listen to the audiobook

I don't like a lot of angst and I was afraid that At Any Turn would be a frustrating rollercoaster of relationship drama. Fortunately, it was not. There was a lot of angst, but it was more of a slow build back to the relationship that I found much more tolerable. The book was really well written and includes some creative descriptions for feelings and situations. I liked the touch of Harry Potter humor in what was otherwise an emotional scene.

Jason Clarke is a supremely talented narrator. I love that he creates distinct voices for each of the different people. He brings the characters to life with the way he conveys their emotions. The angst in the book almost seems worth it when you can hear the frustration, the tears and regret spoken in the character's words. The audiobook is very well done, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Superb!

I have loved every word of this second book of Gaming the System. The game of life is becoming even harder and more complex, playing havoc with the lives of Adam and Amelia. Jason Clarke's narration is superb. Empathetic, sensitive, rich. His tone, delivery and ability to tell a story is outstanding. This has been a wonderful listen. 💖💖💖💖💖
