All the feels!
This was such a heartwrenching hit-you-in-the-emotional-gut read, filled with tragedy and lost chances, you really can't help but root for these former Long Acre students. In town for a documentary detailing the tragedy that happened on the night of their senior prom when students were gunned down, Liv comes face to face with her former flame, football star and town hero, Finn Dorsey. The guy who kept their relationship a secret and abandoned her the night of the shooting... leaving her alone and unprotected while he saved some other girl. Finn never got over the guilt of how he acted that day, He joined the FBI to take down a vicious gang of gun dealers with links to supplying kids with weapons like those used in his own school shooting.
I read this book shortly after listening to Amber Springs by Siobhan Davis and it had the same emotional depth and soul deep healing theme, but unlike Amber Springs which focuses on the sister of a high school shooter, this is the perspective of survivors looking back over a decade later and how the trauma impacted their lives.
Just as Liv and Finn are trying to run from their pasts, the connection between them heats up again, making them having to decide if they should slow down or risk racing right on by their second chance of the future they always wanted.

Trauma changed their lives...
This author took on a sensitive topic in this story- school shootings. In this book, the hero and heroine are survivors of a massacre at their high school and we find them 12 years later coming back to the school to appear in a documentary about the event. There are interesting characters and a lot of unexpressed guilt among the survivors of the prom night shooting. The hero and heroine were making out in a janitors closet when it began, but they weren’t there as each other’s date. Seeing each other years later wakes up the memories and the attraction that is still there complicates matters too. Narration is done fairly well, but this audiobook really needed a male narrator as well.

Horrible accents
The narrator’s super-exaggerated Texas twang was terrible, and totally ruined the story for me. I think that some level of accent was probably necessary for the characters, but I found it obnoxious and distracting the way it was performed.

Horrible narration...
The narration was horrendous ... I have to change it to 2.5x to make it more bearable. Not only that I have a difficult to know when the point of view changes because her tone stays the same. Just bad... but the story was good!

This was good. Super good!
I've seen a few reviews for this and I've been intrigued since it came out. Finally got my hands on it.
The story follows Liv and Finn. Both were in their senior class when tragedy struck. Only a few students survived that terrible night. The media dubbed those survivors as The Ones Who Got Away. Liv and Finn had a secret relationship and that night tore them apart. Years have passed and the two run into each other during the filming of another documentary and the sparks are still there, but can they find themselves before they lose each other.
OoooOOOoooooOOOOOOooooOOOO the feels here. It really gave me some tears here and there. Especially at the beginning. Finn, Liv, and the others have a lot of damage from what happened that night. Poor things. I can't even imagine surviving something like that and having to deal with the guilts and sadness. UGH so sad.
What I loved the most about this story was that this wasn't only a journey of love, but a journey for the characters to help them move forward. They have a lot of demons to sort through and find themselves again. I was nervous this would be 2-D and too angsty, but there was a perfect balance of complexity and simplicity. The characters loved each other and they knew it and have always known it even though they don't think it will ever work especially after that terrible night. The past weighs heavy on both of them. Especially Finn. He has so much guilt and he blames himself for Liv nearly getting killed. They have the lust down but loving themselves and each other will take time.
I also love the side characters. I want them all to find happiness within themselves and their love life! They deserve a HEA!!! Can't wait to get my hands on the next ones!
Loved the narrator. She was awesome.
This was good. Super good. This is definitely will hit you in the feels. Good feels and sad feels. I highly recommend it. 5 stars

The Ones Who Got Away
After the terrible incident 12 years ago and all the nightmares that followed, these few have returned to be interviewed for a documentary and connect and finally Liv and Finn are face to face again. Life changing decisions bring these two together once more and only their love will keep them together. This was not only heartbreaking but life changing. I cannot wait to find out what is in store for the rest of the group.

Compelling story about the Strength, Guilt, & Struggles of School Shooting Survivors
While this is a romance, it is more a story about surviving tragedy. It is the first in a series and a bit of a departure from the author’s erotic romances, though there are several hot scenes. This is more though as it begins to explore the aftermath of a school shooting through the adult memories of teen survivors. The characters are varied and interesting, the narrative unfortunately fairly ringing with elements of truth. The narration was ok- not great- and would have been better with less forced accent and with a dual or duet performance. It is worth a credit if the reader is not fortunate enough to subscribe to the escape package.

I think I followed a small hype when this book was released. The pace was too slow and the narrator I was hearing too many swollow noises.
