About this listen
From actor Cary Elwes, who played the iconic role of Westley in The Princess Bride, comes a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film filled with never-before-told stories and interviews with costars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Mandy Patinkin, as well as author and screenwriter William Goldman, producer Norman Lear, and director Rob Reiner.
The Princess Bride has been a family favorite for close to three decades. Ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top 100 Greatest Love Stories and by the Writers Guild of America as one of the top 100 screenplays of all time, The Princess Bride will continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.
Cary Elwes was inspired to share his memories and give fans an unprecedented look into the creation of the film while participating in the twenty-fifth anniversary cast reunion. In As You Wish he has created an enchanting experience; in addition to interviews with his fellow cast mates, there are plenty of set secrets and backstage stories.
With a foreword by Rob Reiner, As You Wish is a must-have for all fans of this beloved film.

All rights reserved. At the end of Spielberg's 'Hook' when Pan leaves Neverland and whispers one final 'thank-you for believing', that's essentially what Elwes gives us here, a warm gushing appreciation for getting to play in the pure and innocent Neverland of The Princess Bride, and getting to be a pirate and swashbuckling hero, as well as a more frank thank-you to the fans for making the film an eventual success despite the disasterous marketing and poor box office at launch.
The rest of the cast all get a look-in too, with lots of sound bites from Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon & Wallace Shawn, and lots of stories told about Carey's experiences with Andre the Giant.

Where does As You Wish rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best, the most nostalgic fun to be had of the year...What was one of the most memorable moments of As You Wish?
All those little behind the scenes nuggets: which director nearly made PB? What did Wesley (Cary Elwes) really make of Princess Buttercup? (Robin Wright), which amazing actor did not think he was right for his part? and who was the most beloved of all the cast members? What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Elwes is a fantastic narrator, if he wrote this book without a ghost writer he is also an accomplished writerWas this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The only audiobook I remained glued to and listened to all in one go...Any additional comments?
The Princess Bride is one of my favourite films and if you love the film you will love this behind the scenes memoir. Cary Elwes writes an account of the making of the film which is as courteous and elegant as the man in black himself and yet which also provides all kinds of fascinating insights as to how the film was made. Ever wanted to know what its really like being an actor? Not as easy as you might think. A lively nostalgic read with the added bonus of the real voices of the cast and filmmaking team, re-live the film and see it anew....Audiobook of the year for all PB fans
