Summary

Three species vanish every hour. Our incredible world is at risk, and we all have a part to play in saving it.

The diversity of life on earth is astounding, with each species perfectly adapted to its environment. Sharks can navigate the ocean using electromagnetic fields; sloths use algae as camouflage; albatross can fly for hours without beating their wings; and orca pods each have unique cultures and languages.

But every hour, three species disappear.

Our incredible world is at risk.

Megan McCubbin reveals the stories of the scientists, rangers and conservationists who are fighting to save these extraordinary creatures from extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Species shows us that the battle is on for their survival - and we all have a part to play.

excellent!

I thought this book / audio book was excellent, very well researched and thought provoking. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me.
The book is great because it doesn't just focus on the well known / cute and cuddly species, there's a good range of species from across the globe, it left me wanting to research more into certain species.
Although the book was excellent I found myself feeling a bit doom and gloom after reading it, especially as I finished it a day after the UK PM pushing back on some of the UK green commitments. I wonder where this leaves the species in the book and the human race longer term.

Loved it

I found this book engaging, clear and insightful into methods of conservation and current threats to species. It was also nice to get a window into Meghan’s breadth of experience in the field of conservation, and the projects worked on. Beautifully read and a peaceful escape for me.

Interesting and inspirational

Excellently researched, written and narrated by Megan McCubbin. As someone who struggles with eco anxiety, I found each chapter the perfect length to limit my listening time. I also found there were enough positive and uplifting stories to counteract the frustration of our leaders' ambivalence to climate crisis. Instead of feeling paralysed by their inactivity, Megan has inspired me to maintain hopeful thinking and to introduce more lifestyle changes.

Well researched and thought provoking.

Megan has definitely spent the time researching the plants and animals in this book to offer a great understanding of the threats they face. Putting a face to the people behind the scenes helping to save the amazing variety of creatures we have on this planet.

Informative and empowering

I have found this book both captivating and saddening at the same time. Megan highlights the importance of species that I've never even known existed. The indepth research into each and every topic has had me mesmerised and but also made me sad that they soon could be extinct due to humans taking our planet for granted. More needs to be done, and time is running out. We need to make a change, and I am certainly going to do my utmost to play a part where I can to help the wildlife that still visits our gardens today. If each and every one of us made a little change, then we've got a fighting chance to change this world around and hopefully stop any more animals from becoming extinct.
