Bloomsbury presents Forget Me Not by Sophie Pavelle, read by Sophie Pavelle.

Join Sophie Pavelle on a low-carbon journey around Britain in search of ten animals and habitats threatened by climate change in the 21st century.

Forget-me-not—a beautiful flower and a plea from our islands’ wildlife. When climate change has driven dozens of our most charismatic species to extinction, will they be forgotten?

Like many of her generation, Sophie Pavelle is determined to demand action on climate change. In her hilarious and thought-provoking first audiobook, she describes the trips she took to see ten rare native species: species that could disappear by 2050 and be forgotten by the end of the century if their habitats continue to decline.

Sophie challenged herself to find them the low-carbon way, travelling the length of Britain on foot, by bicycle, in an electric car, by kayak, on ferries and in a lot of trains. From Bodmin Moor to the Orkney Islands, Sophie encountered species on the frontline of climate change in Britain. Which are going to be seriously affected, and why? Could some bounce back from the brink? Or are we too late to save them?

Forget Me Not is a clarion call: we all need to play a part in tackling this most existential of threats. Everyone can see wildlife in the British Isles without contributing to its destruction. With joyful irreverence, Sophie shows us we can dare to hope. Journey with her, and she may even inspire you to take action for nature and head out on your own low-carbon adventure.

A wonderful wildlife listen.

After a 04.30 start delivery trip to St Margaret’s bay near Dover from my home in Somerset and back again the odometer clicked slightly over 400miles as I have finished just after 2pm. Quite a journey I know but I had just he best company in the voice of Sophie Pavelle. I was enjoying her audio version of her book ‘Forget Me Not’ published by Bloomsbury. Aside from the very important messages about our devastating effect on our wildlife that she illustrates in data rich mix of humour and compassion; this woman’s writing is truly beautiful. Please somebody who is in charge of awards for such work grab a copy and then find her and bestow on her a huge recognition for her efforts. The descriptions, the emotions, the humour and the delightful delivery was uplifting. She finds so many people who are working so hard to save what we have. I’ve spent much of my 50 plus years despairing about the uk wildlife but this younger generation are just fantastic in their efforts to reverse the rot. Well done and a huge thank you Sophie.

the book to read about our nature's human battle

From the start this book was different from all others that deal with the damage done to our natural world. It bounced with beautiful skill between humour and tragedy as both a marker of what has gone wrong in our attitudes and actions to how we absolutely must no longer sit on the fence, looking for someone else to correct it.

Too many high points to list except one for me. The acknowledgements at the very end. The thanks given to a stream of experts, from Dr's, individuals, organisations and universities to family members, highlighted to me just what a wealth of knowledge goes into creating such a work...knowledge we must accept and act upon without delay.

the narration was lovely, sounded like a friend talking and although I am a fan of audible I'm off to buy a copy or two so that it will be around my home forever as book that stirred my lazy guilt and the spare as one to share around.

Well done Sophie and all involved.

Educational and Entertaining

An easy but informative listen that reminded me we can love and enjoy the natural world without being experts. Funny anecdotes delivered in a way that makes you feel like you're old pals. A refreshing listen for young nature lovers and those who are young at heart.

Thoroughly charming book.

I bought the actual book as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who loved it, but she took it back to uni before I could borrow it to read myself. It was therefore impatience which caused me to buy the audiobook as well. Very glad I did. How lovely to have such a passionate book, so full of personality (that of the wildlife covered and also the author) read by its creator. I learned a lot, got a bit sad at times, but was also very entertained. 11/10

Unforgettable! Haha

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Unlike other climate change / modern natural history writing it has left me thinking in a positive place, it was funny and clever and sweet and best of all did not make me want to kill myself. It did not however lack impact and has spurred me on to continue my own small journey of understanding and protection the natural world. Thank you Sophie for writing it.

A book and subject not to be forgotten.

I loved this audio book, Sophie has a lovely relaxed way of writing. Even though the subject matter depicts a worrying future for our native wildlife, Sophie's enthusiasm makes you all the more determined to try and make a difference and get out into the wilds of the UK to see the wonderful nature on our doorstep.

Interest and intrigue, honest, frank and funny.

A really interesting look at some of the more overlooked threatened species in the UK written and delivered in the style of having a chat to your best nature-nerd mate over a pint. Great stuff.

An absolute pleasure..

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I did so whilst cycling and Sophie was my company with her engaging and friendly tone.. the words were inspirational and wise, the chat funny and sad. I now see the world differently, it really was a pleasure.

A cause for optimism?

A wonderful exploration of ten endangered British wildlife species. So much more than a scientific description of the wildflower and their issues, Sophie gets out there and digs deep into the problems, chasing down expertise, and recounting all in an accessible and charming manner. Maybe it helps that I have five adult children all around Sophie’s age, but I caught myself chuckling along many times. Nevertheless, the subject matter is so important throughout and that message never gets lost in the descriptions of Sophie’s many adventures, trials and tribulations.
I feel that the world will be a better and hopefully healthier place with young people like Sophie banging the drum for change - I’m just so sorry that capital greed of preceding generations has brought us to this brink.
Go Sophie, I’m anxiously waiting for the next volume! (And leaving the dandelions alone).

Looking forward to Pavelle's next book, already!

Although I wouldn't call this book hilarious as was described, I loved the cheekiness and wit without being cocky or sounding like a know-it-all. I selected this book for no good reason other than to try something different. I was pleasantly surprised and entertained as a beneficiary of Sophie's extraordinary research and interesting information. Her ability to relate and tell a story with such cleaver analogies was refreshing. You will just have to read through to find how she describes the ultimate enigma in nature just waiting to be solved. You go Girl! Great Job and thank you for making my listening time well spent.

Wonderful and sad

Everyone should read this book, or in my case listen to it. Beautifully written and superbly narrated. I can only hope we hear more from this author. Thanks
