Summary

Why do some societies collapse into lawless savagery while others prove resilient and lasting?

On Zero Day of the first and last cyberwar in human history, the internet went dark, transport and power grids collapsed and cities began to starve, showing just how vulnerable the world could be to a targeted campaign of online sabotage. This final instalment of this prescient epic of civilisation collapse finds the small ragtag band of survivors come together to face a new, but eerily familiar threat - the rise of a fascist militia among the ruins of a failing country.

With American Kill Switch, John Birmingham’s End of Days trilogy comes to a high-octane, thrilling conclusion.

Fantastic mix

This whole series is defined by exceptional imagery, an exceptional range of characters, a realistic background, and a precise array of tricks and misdirections to keep you hooked from page 1 book one to hours and hours later

I wish I could forget about this trilogy so that I could find it again and listen from scratch!!

A very satisfactory conclusion.

Wraps it all up well. The usual gallows humour and explosive action balanced with memorable characters. Another excellent trilogy.

Great series

Enjoyed all three books in the series. Author thoroughly entwined the lives and stories of each character. Each character had flaws, bouts of heroism, weakness and strength when needed. Highly recommend

I had high hopes!

Story started out strong with some original ideas and interesting characters. The author really developed some characters , while just using stereotypes for others (usually evident by his bias). Sadly this took a 5 star story to 3 star. If there had been only a few biases, it would not be an issue. However it is used regularly throughout. Which felt lazy and lacking. Several times I almost stopped listening but really fell in love with the story line and a handful of main characters (Mel, Rick, Ellie and Michelle).

Narration was well done. The voice of each character was unique and easily distinguished from each other.

Unnecessary ickiness

I enjoyed this series. Loved most of it. God help us if this ever happens to us for real!! OMG!

The narrator was spot on with the Aussie accent and the characters were believable.

Only large complaint was at the very end when things got more "icky" than I thought was necessary. Other than that, interesting story that held my attention.

Tony "The Tripod"

Jonas Murdoch helps lead the good folk of Silverton. Getting out of Silverton slightly ahead of the motorcycle gang that took over the town. He devised The Legion of Freedom, and with his one hundred cohorts and a slick tongue was busy taking over towns, building an empire. It’s good to be king. Jodi Sarjanan and Ellie Jabbarah navigating the inland waterways of California. Damo and Carl join them, helping Maxi, Pascal, and Beatrice get home to Canada. James O’Donnell and his friends Michelle, Rick, and Melissa traveling cross-country. Rick and Nome were still a team. Nome is my favorite character. James and friends meet up with Damo, Carl, Jodi, and Ellie in the town of Batham where they encountered religious zealot Preacher and his followers. Religious fanatics seem to appear regularly in this genre. James and crew, including Damo and crew, continued heading towards James’ parent’s ranch outside Livingston Montana. Livingston had been destroyed by The Legion. Everyone was welcomed at the O’Donnel’s ranch. Damo’s home was still many miles to the north in Canada, where he and his friends would bring the children home. A pig roast and an open invitation celebrated James’ homecoming. Everyone was happy, in a state of make-believe, and felt safe for the first time in a long time. Michelle set about doing her professional risk assessment. Back in the town of Three Forks, which The Legion had taken over before Livingston, all hell was breaking loose. Michelle, Rick, and a few from O’Donnel’s ranch went to Three Forks to negotiate a settlement but were finding out much more than they had imagined. What was taking place in Three Forks? Hold on to your seat!

Awed trilogy!

This was the final installment in this series and I enjoyed every one of the books. The author is very talented in bringing out characters and allowing the reader to identify with them.

Excellent Series

Absolutely great. I have read many novels in the genre and this was certainly one of the very best.
The author pulls you in, makes each character come to life, and gives you a true sense of who they are.
Settings and scenes are believeable and while some in this post apocalyptic type of novel force the reader into an uncomfortable suspension of disbelief, this author does not.
Read them in order and prepare for a spectacular ride!

Good but inconsistencies,

First off I got this book and nowhere in the description or beginning of it does it say that it is the 3rd in a series. So I listened to this first then the other two. It’s a good story I like it.
Two things that bothered me- 1. The author is not from the States, so I thought it was weird it’s about the US not UK where I think the author is from. some of the wording like “torch” and saying they went “up the stairs to the first floor apartment” makes it obvious the author isn’t from the states, it’s not a huge deal. But i just find it weird the author is writing about a place they aren’t from. 2- there are many inconsistencies, the the beginning of the 3rd book they cal Mel Baker “Melinda” when her name is “Melissa.” If Michelle is supposed to be this tough girl ex government operative, why is she described as struggling through Mels fitness and self defense stuff.
It’s all just little things that don’t hurt the story at all, but are a bit irksome. Overall I really like the series!

Intensely Wonderful!

I've lost track of how many apocalyptic stories I've listened too but I have to say that this trilogy is one of the best!
