Summary

The Graft is an enthralling and hard-hitting story of violence and revenge from number one best-selling author Martina Cole.

Looking back, Nick Leary couldn't say exactly what kept him awake that night. He'd had a lot on his mind; perhaps he'd been thinking about the 'respectable' Essex business that he ran, or about his two young sons sleeping in the room next door. Or was it simply the sound of his beautiful wife's steady breathing beside him? Whatever it was, he was awake when he heard someone's footsteps downstairs, and Nick's instinct was to fight.

It had always been that way, to protect the things he treasured most: his family, his privacy, his reputation. He'd grafted for these things all his life and no one was going to jeopardise them now. Unless, of course, Nick's instinct is wrong, and what happens this time is the start of something even he cannot stop...

Full of grit!

Dangerously dark and completely profound, in every way. The narrator in this story, was clinical to perfection. A story full of chaos, grit and a whole lot of graft.

A deep and dark story that will get you hooked....

I had never read (or heard) any Martina Cole books before and as I started it I thought that there was too much detail on all the background information and not enough focus on an actual storyline. I will honestly say it took a while to get into. But about halfway through I was completely hooked and I understood that all the previous details were needed for me to understand the lifestyles of, and to feel emotionally attached to, the main characters.

The storyline takes twists and turns and sends you on a journey on lots of worrying and disturbing paths, which is what I need to keep me interested.

I was listening to it at every available opportunity, 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there, and when it ended I was so into the story and characters that it actually had me in tears, (and I was on public transport!).

It is a brilliant (dark) story and it has started me on my way to reading and listening to many more Martina Cole's. Annie Aldington is the perfect narrator for this book and I have also chosen other audiobooks that she has narrated.

I would, and have, highly recommended this audiobook to others.

good story

Good but very sad in parts, a lot of child abuse, but still a good story.
